Ok, so we have examples from the US and Australia, plus a third showing worldwide figures.

Anything New Zealand-specific?

Cool...Australia..

I see...Australia had an increase...cool.

A few countries had an increase, and some had decreases. Not sure why you need to try and get funny about it?

Article is over a year old. And I am sure most countries saw a blip in average life expectancy in 20/21.

Ok....this media release is over a year old too.

"most countries saw a blip in average life expectancy in 20/21." Are you saying there was a decrease in most countries? Yes...no?

I think it's time to lock this thread.

Yes the virus is still around but I feel the discussions are leaning toward miss and disinformation.

with better care and increased isolation, life expectancy goes up. however care and isolation have been declining back to more "normal" levels.

end of the day, we have a new virus in the mix which will make an impact every year. how big an impact is any ones guess. also actual life expectancy will vary depending on other factors as covid is not the only thing that kills us.

Since covid I've become aware of how debilitating and infectious even a random flu can be. More so, if it catches you at a bad time. Hopefully our attitudes about that are improving. Meh I really should have refused to go out the other night or suggested a romantic dinner in the car..

I always liked NZ On Screen but I struggle to see why they would even have a trailer for this propaganda-driven bs on their site: https://www.nzonscreen.com/title/river-of-freedom-2023

Not sure I have ever had the flu and yet to get Covid. Here is a RNZ story from yesterday about long covid. I know a few people who have not recovered fully from it. I can see it becoming another hidden illness in society which gets very little media attention. I also got a notification on my phone that Apples covid tracking is over. https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/world/498614/long-covid-mri-scans-reveal-new-clues-to-symptoms

Apple and Android tracking are only enabled for official covid trace apps. Since our covid trace is now discontinued, this feature is no longer enabled.

You have a similar effect with other viruses. It can knock the hell out of your immune system

I got hit with a flu in the 90s, and it took over a year before I fully recovered (cut short my OE ... had to go back to NZ and move back in with the folks)

At the time, my doctor back in NZ thought my immunity was very low because I wasn't exposed to any flu/sicknesses in a long time (at that stage I don't ever remember getting sick with anything but the sniffles, a couple times, since being at school)
