Well my parents (late 60s) have just been through their second round of covid. Took antivirals, seems to have helped.

My daughter (age 4) had covid a couple of months ago for the second time (first time for the whole household was January) - but no one else in the household caught it, including her unvaccinated younger siblings or either adult. So our immunity must be holding up ok.

What interests me is, if one person in a household of say 3 people catches Covid, should the other 2 people take active steps to avoid getting it, such as wearing masks and keeping the infected person isolated as best as possible. Or, should they all just relax and carry on as normal and take no special precautions?

Many libraries are also giving away RATs and masks for free, but I'm not sure why libraries are getting involved? I think the masks are usually the cheap ones that wouldn't meet the N95 standards. Anyway, hardly anyone is wearing masks in crowded places these days, it's just gone "out of fashion"!

My parents had some RATs that were about 1 to 2 months before expiry and were already unreliable. Fortunately, they showed it by not having the should-always-be-on C line not show up.

Impossible to say anyway, as it'll be statistical, but personally I wouldn't trust them for anything important from the moment they were expired.

Impossible with children.

And many people wouldn't have the space to be able to isolate - until we moved earlier this year we were five people in a two bedroom house.

Yes I can quite understand that. I think it's fairly likely that once 1 person in the household has caught it, the rest of the people in that household will also catch it. So, perhaps everyone should just relax and carry on as normal and go to work and do the shopping etc. However, is it possible that some of the people in that household who are currently testing negative, might actually be carriers because of their close contact with the virus and should therefore avoid going unmasked into crowded indoor places?

If you care about yourself or others you should never go unmasked into crowded indoor places.

If you care about yourself or others you should never go unmasked into crowded indoor places.

i guess that 99.9 % of people dont care.

Common sense is not as common as you think.

Thanks, that's interesting information. I have a pack that expired about 2 months ago, so I will definitely bin this and get a more recent pack. I'm not sure that just 1 positive RAT test should be considered as reliable, I would want say 3 positive tests done over a 48-hour period.

I tend to agree, but it's hard to have a meal out or a coffee when you're wearing a mask! I went around a busy supermarket yesterday, and none of the checkout operators were wearing masks and only 2 of the dozens of shoppers were wearing them, 1 of which was me! One of the customers actually said to me "what's with the mask" and I said that several of my friends currently have Covid, and he did a disappearing act really fast!
