What criticisms specifically? I’m assuming that you have read the report?

Can’t type it all in on my phone but in general: official advice that was overridden by decisions made by politicians, late exit from elimination strategy, Auckland shutdown and border closure, social division and erosion of public trust

I think there's a bit more nuance in the report than what you seem to be insinuating. The government of the day comes off fairly well from the report while there were clearly mistakes made. Some of them were hindsight, some wrong in the moment. Some of the wrong decisions were big ones but big decisions = big mistakes.

My bigger concern from the report was advice that didn't get to the politicians. For example the ministerial advisory group advised that those under 17 should only get 1 vaccine but that advice didn't get to the minister. It also indicated that Treasury advice was sometimes lacking.

Understanding why that advice didn't get presented and whether the recommendations of the report get implemented are of far more use than some sort of witch hunt. This was setup by NZ first as a way to have a crack at the last government and it's been mostly unsuccessful.

Nuance is not required. Facts as stated are facts and can be considered individually. The report is overall supportive but that doesn’t mean that individual criticisms are not to be investigated or followed up on - that was pretty much the reason for the inquiry.

The factual reason for the inquiry was Act and New Zealand First wanted a witch hunt which was very conveniently not for the period that NZ first was part of the government.

National have now instigated their inquiry into the monetary response which is equally conveniently to be released before the election

Unfortunately for them it seems like the report is well balanced and reasonable. I agree that the recommendations need to be taken on board and acted on.

Unsurprisingly, given the Royal Commission didn’t give him the outcome he wanted, Winston is calling for a select committee inquiry into vaccine injuries. He wants a new witch hunt because he hasn’t been able to burn anyone at the stake. It’s a naked political stunt.

The article compares Winston and Seymour's claims against the actual report. As expected, these two are not saying exactly what is written.

And an alternative opinion of the report can be found here: https://aniobrien.substack.com/p/covid-inquiry-should-raise-serious-questions

I think that in reading opinions it pays to keep an open mind and not just read the opinions from sources that appeal.

Ani O’Brien is both a good writer and a thoroughly political actor. I agree it’s an opinion piece worth reading, as it presents a point of view that is prevalent, while understanding she comes from a very political place.

I’d consider her conclusions as credible as Martyn Bradburys- occasionally interesting, worth considering but not at all to be relied on.

The same who worked at The Platform. That alone, and being an ex-National operative tells me not completely free of... Opinions.

Hmmm - I understand. Only left wing supporting opinions are tolerated. And please don't tell me the Spinoff 'Opinion' pieces are anything other than opinion.

Ani O'Brien the Twitter troll? No thanks! She's one of the reasons I left that hellhole site.

Not the point. The point is opinions from both sides are tolerated. You are still posting, aren't you?

Arguing the opinion from one side or another is not intolerance. It's debate.

Don't come around pretending to being censored when it's not happening. That's exactly what the MAGA folks do in the USA "We are being censored!" but, incredibly, their voices are everywhere.

I don't call ad-hominem attacks on the authors of opinion articles debate. Discussing their actual opinions would be debate - you know - refutation of claims etc. I don't think outright dismissal based on the authors name is that.

Oh - BTW - I never claimed censorship - those are your words.

Anyway - enough from me. I am disappointed.
