@Oblivion

Yes I have been using Rippl successfully on MoH QR codes (when I remember!) until MoH releases the new version in the next 2 weeks that they say will support my phones Android 6 and as as you say I am not aware Rippl will provide alerting or manual entry of places visited

Bring on the new version of the MoH one!

A valid question was asked at the stand-up yesterday. And as far as I know not yet answered with full confidence.

Why didn't they use the push notifications as a first test attempt for the countdown absconding case.

Instead the only answer they had was they had word that countdown had mailed all Onecard users that swiped day and advised them. There is part of the market. But it does leave out the app scanners (if there was any). Unsure if Ripple made the attempt manually since Wellington has good uptake of that.

And anyone else would have to be a media-watcher to have been advised.

Multi-faceted to assist. But sure highlights how useful it could be, had they made use of it from both sides.

So far as the current app goes. The horse has well and truly bolted. As for making it work, you can put lipstick on a pig but it's still a pig.

No one I know uses it.

I use it. It works.

Yes it is working in that sense, but it's certainly not working in the sense that there is universal uptake in the community. This is probably due to many reasons among things like the shambles in the beginning of businesses being able to get QR codes,  the lack good clear concise information on how the app doesn't infringe privacy, the lack of compatibility with older OS versions.

The app isn't working in the sense that due to the very poor uptake it is unlikely to provide any real benefit in the event of an outbreak. The initial implementation was was very poor and I think as a result the average person gave up on it or has privacy concerns.

Perhaps the scheme needs to be completely repackaged and relaunched, but as it is now any incremental changes or improvements are unlikely to improve uptake.

I don't use it because it will not run on my phone.

P.S.

I have yet to see anyone use one of the QR codes. I suspect the faffing around of getting your phone out, start the app and scan the QR code (which will usually take a few moments to scan) is too much trouble for most folk.

I'd be interested to know how many scans there are per day. It should be in the millions, I bet it's not.

Media releases include it. SOmeone has been graphing per a previous page

Yesterday:

NZ COVID Tracer has now recorded 607,000 registrations, which is an increase of 11,000 on this time yesterday. The number of poster scans is now 1,441,911.

It’s understandable that people have not been keeping track of where they’ve been with NZ COVID Tracer since the move to Alert Level 1, but it’s important we all recognise there is an ongoing risk of a resurgence of COVID-19 and we can’t afford to be complacent.

The number of QR codes on display has been continuing to increase steadily – there are now 78,810 that have been created - but there are a still a number of businesses and public-facing organisations that haven’t yet got on board.

... They left out removing them again.. Z, Countdown...

Today:

NZ COVID Tracer has now recorded 611,500 registered users.

There have been 79,492 posters created to date, and 1,458,852 poster scans

We continue to encourage all New Zealanders to keep a record of where they have been – particularly by scanning QR codes through the app.

So another 4,500ish Registrations. And 16,941‬ actual scans in 24hrs/period of capture.

Media threw up a number of 1 scan per person every 18 months. Which isn't flash if we're all going lots of places with them

I wonder how many of the 611,500 registered users have uninstalled the app or are not using it for various reasons

I've kept that question to shouting at the TV/Screen during standup rather than ask publicly like that knowing the likely answer :P

With the anonymity around the statistics I suspect an installed vs scanned vs last active acct metric probably can't be matched without raising eyebrows

It's dead Jim.

The govt can keep flogging it, but it's dead as.

Whether the botched implementation was to blame or something else, its irrelevant. Its dead.

We need effective tracing in place for when community transmission arrives, and it will.

Time to move on. Now please.

At the same time, like the card idea it seems people are still keen to hear an alternate proposal for such shoot downs that covers all the tin hat wearers and dopes who can't remember what was for breakafast the day before let alone 2 weeks ago.

For the time being for the likes of M and myself, it's filling a gap to do that in it's basic form

About two scans per app download. If the app worked at all, why did the Min Health use CCTV to identify visitors to the Countdown the escapee used?

it’s not whether it can scan or record, it’s whether the scan or records can be used. And they can’t.

Was it reported that CCTV was used for that? I know they looked at it to ascertain an initial threat level (if he had been in close contact with persons that needed to be looked into further and for the period of time)

But yes, I did touch on media asking why was an alert not produced. But no-one could answer it. Not that it was full coverage market with the uptake at this time anyway.

But of course absolutely everyone else without the app took note of the exact time they were in store I'm sure. Or rather I imagine it led more to mass rage with a broader/blanket group that could only recall they actually went there that day. Or lump the timeframe to pre or after lunch breaks etc

What I find odd is that so far rippl successfully scans every MoH QR code that my son and wifes MoH app won't

Someone here likely understands why

There is a new version (major release?) of the MoH coming out in the next 2 weeks so maybe that will be improved I'm sure they are aware of the issue

Had the same thing with a QR code that previously worked fine. They pushed out an update today for which the change log mentioned fixing scanning problems on some QR codes.

Looking at the post-lockdown performance of the MoH I think we got here more by blind luck than anything else.

So the question is what happens when they announce that someone was shopping at your local supermarket 10 days ago or was at a local bar last Wednesday evening has tested positive for COVID-19? Can you remember your movements? Do you have a personal diary to check?
I regularly use the MoH app without problem and I have details of where I have been over the past 30 days on my phone. The app is for my use and when there is an outbreak in the community it may be very useful to me. It may also help the contact tracers do their job as well.
Clearly there have been teething issues with the app but for many it will work now.
Just use it.

All six people who scanned in using the app get notified, the other 2,994 have to be traced manually.

(That's not a joke, that's what an adoption rate of 0.2% gets you).
