**IMPORTANT**

There is already good evidence from South Korea, China and Italy that significant numbers of patients with proven COVID-19 infection have developed anosmia/hyposmia. In Germany it is reported that more than 2 in 3 confirmed cases have anosmia. In South Korea, where testing has been more widespread, 30% of patients testing positive have had anosmia as their major presenting symptom in otherwise mild cases.

https://www.entuk.org/loss-sense-smell-marker-covid-19-infection   Loss of sense of smell (without a blocked nose) is a *strong* indicator of Covid19. Apparently otherwise asymptomatic carriers can lose their sense of smell as their only symptom. Immediately isolate to prevent transmission to friends/family/contacts.   Tell others to beware of this symptom.   In in a group of people who catch Covid19 one is likely to have the symptom, so it is a very important test to check for community transmission, especially since it seems to happen early and it is so simple and clear to recognise.   Note that a common cause of anosmia is a viral infection (flu or cold), but it seems that it is a relatively rare symptom. Baysian, I would assume anyone with sudden loss of smell has Covid19, even if they are otherwise asymptomatic.

You are obsessed with CT. I guarantee you we have CT ... but we will only know in 2 weeks when there's an outbreak. I just hope it doesn't overload the health system. Check back in 2 weeks!

Why do I say that - a GP on one of the feeds say that it is Ministry of health directive that they are only allow to test people related to travel.

They have treated umpteen community people with suspected Covid but not allowed to test because they don't meet the MOH policy - and they just presume they have and instrust those pt to self isolate. So they know that CT is happening but they are not allowed to do the test on them.

I'm very happy to be wrong and we don't have an outbreak, that would be a win.

Im not obsessed with CT at all. I recognise that we brought many back from Wuhan, forced quarantine, all ok now. I recognise that we had travellers arriving from affected countries when it was still early days. Some cases, not much. I recognise that we do have a lot of Kiwis coming home from heavily affected countries, more cases. Its taken till now to have two potential known CT's. Are there more? No doubt. Where are they? They called GP, called Healthline, told to self isolate. We dont have clusters everywhere exponentially growing every day. Ive not heard of any areas where for some unknown reason the sickness in the community seems way high.

MoH could go hard and test a lot of non travel people daily. They can test me and you. Both negative, great. But the need to test us next week and the week after as we are not self isolating. Thats not doable. What I am obsessed with is we get new cases everyday and its commented on as a growing outbreak, yet we all know that are all travel related. So due to this growing outbreak (which is due to our Kiwis coming home from USA, Europe and Australia) we want to lock everything down. I favour a lockdown, but not for your reasons, its to stop the laggards who aren't playing ball. Will a lockdown stop our cases? No. It will reduce CT, which so far, isn't an outbreak.

IMO we are still ahead of this.

ah i see. you are the MOH. makes total sense. no i don't recall saying we need to lockdown. i said we're not testing the right people. by the way, mr health minister, we've only heard you speak for a grand total of 4 mins in this entire pandemic.

Australia's includes "Supermarkets, petrol stations, pharmacies, convenience stores, freight and logistics, and home delivery will be among the many services that will remain open.

May not be exactly that here, but any business, while it must be physically closed to the public, can operate online. Supports for that can be online, i.e. IT support

Not all support can be provided remotely.

I suspect a fair number of our clients will be home from this week onward, Government alert level or not, so the risk to us onsite is low. We have cancelled all face to face meetings that are possible to be run via video conference or call. Clients have been on the whole, very understanding.

I am just not sure, if they move to Level 4, could my staff attend a physical issue onsite if required? I assume so. Is having 1 person at the office permissible? Assuming they go Home > Office > Home, the risk is basically zero.

If the measure is closed to the public, then, in theory, yes since we don't really get the public in our office anyway.

Agree, although Level 4 means non essential, I assume that includes site visits unless your client is an essential service. Yes, if we all work remotely or from home that's great, but its not much use to you as an employer or me as an employee if the businesses we can support have shut down. A lockdown needs to be carefully thought out and not rushed into. My key issue is the many that aren't dong the right thing, which a lockdown would resolve but with a bad result for business.

If a lockdown or partial is on the cards, your questions need to be answered as its not black and white, there are many scenarios that are safe as houses that could be dealt with.

The govt had included contact with known C19 disease as part of their testing criteria. This mistake was also made overseas, and therefore biases against discovery of CT.

Yeah. We need open government. We need to know who is driving the advice being followed by govt, and the data they are using to drive this advice.

So far western nations have fared poorly in this war against a fast moving stealthy enemy.

These are trying times folks. Some really don't seem to grasp the seriousness of these events.

Speaking of which, here’s a classic: a relative of mine has recently moved into a flat. They are planning a flat-warming party next weekend. Apparently one of the flatmates doesn’t want it to go ahead so they’ll stay elsewhere.

What a cliche of the stupidity of youth.

My unsubtle texts saying what I thought of this, and containing links to some further info, have unsurprisingly gone unanswered.

I have a daughter who is 21. Gamer, Saturday with her pals DnD player. Her and her friends have all isolated from each other and do their thing online now, Super proud

It does, fully accept that. The big deal right now is incoming travellers, a lot of them, we have a handle on that. CT is low here, maybe 2 known, maybe not. Maybe more out there, bound to be, but its not rampant yet. Given the thouroughness shoiwn so far, IMO we can manage that. It would be ideal that incoming tavellers cease soon very soon, or they go into forced quarantine, thereby we can forget them as a huge leak, so we can focus on CT remaining contained. I say contained as we arent seeing any mass sickness in any parts of the country, and one would hope that any other CT's are doing the right thing by way of medical advice they have been given. Whatever CT is out there, they appear to be silent, as in at home riding out the Covid-19 they migth have or the flu they might have. If so, under containment, but an unknown quantity as yet

You may feel you do but to be honest with social media sharing every decision making criteria just encourages the idiots to "interpret" the data.

I think you've made your position very clear, is there any value in continuing to make the same.points over and over.

You're not the only one and this isn't meant as having a crack at you personally.

TV3 and TV1 have their morning news show presenters sitting far too close together.   TV3 guys seated just over 1 metre apart.  TV1 John Campbell & team seated so close together their laptop lids are nearly touching!   I'd estimate  40 to 50 cm at most!   Have they not heard of the 2 metre apart idea?   This is something they could implement very easily with a wide angle camera view & would help educate the public.

Parliament seating is being re-jigged right now, so time for the TV guys to wake up!   2 metres!
