Well, it’s 8 months for me, and I live in Auckland. So join the queue I guess. Will I get a gold QR code when I manage to get a booster? Have already asked about booking in. Not available yet. So will rely on a walk-in on Monday (hopefully not too much of a queue).

I'm very interested to see how sports events handle it, and one example being Parkrun that I do most weeks (which hasn't been allowed to operate under L2). Scanning 200+ codes each week before people are allowed to run and ensuring nobody who hasn't been scanned can run is just a logistical nightmare. Sure you could get people to validate themselves online but then wouldn't know somebody wasn't vaxxed until the end of the event.
Parkrun is probably a bit different because, from what I understand, it's a bit more casual. Generally marathon events involve all participants wearing a bib, so it would be possible to check vaccine certificates when people turn up to the pre-race check-in.
With regards to the expiry dates. It is pretty clear that this is nothing to do with boosters. As others have pointed out, some people are already eligible for a booster (bookings open on the 26th if I recall correctly).
I don't have an issue with this. It is the primary doses that do the heavy lifting in terms of preventing hospitalization and death. And it is simpler messaging that you get a vaccine pass once you have had two doses.
Many people like the posters on this thread will be getting their boosters regardless, due to the evidence of better protection it requires.
Once the vaccine pass system has bedded in for a couple of months, the policy could be changed, such that new passes issues are set to expire months after your second dose, with a new pass being able to be issued to those who have had boosters. But no need to complicate the messaging with that now. Getting primary doses into people should be the absolute focus.

Park run is just an example. We have a 'casual run' here every week in Nelson, which they have currently restricted to 100 people due to level 2
Traditionally this attracts around 200 people on a nice weather evening,
I'm sure there are plenty of such events all over the country

Yep, This makes sense, absolutely tied to government policy rather than anything to do with the actual vaccine effectiveness.
I can also confirm, that if you go and download a new vaccine pass, it has a new expiry date. I got mine on the first day they were available last week, and just for giggles went and requested a new one just now. The pass now has an expiry six months from today.

There is now strong evidence that boosters make a big difference on both those counts 5 - 6 months down the track.
In the not too distant future it seems likely a booster will be required to be considered fully vaccinated. Sure for most that will not be an issue for a couple of months but many essential healthcare workers and similar are now past the 6 month mark.

Do you have a link to where this is documented as an issue? My pass is still there, with a lot of other loyalty cards loaded into Google Pay.

I've found my pass shortcut randomly disappears from my Android Home screen. Hopefully if it's a known issue it can be resolved as that will be annoying when it's frequently required.
