Stu: I didn't even think of going to a liquor shop. Hope I have enough single malt.

freitasm: I've ordered two cases of wine last week and got them before the weekend.

My partner just, prior to border restrictions, returned from Perth with his elderly sister so we stocked up with max allowance for two and whilst he was away I received my delivery from Laithwaites. 🍷🍸🍹🍶

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

Just though I would say she made a hard but correct decision today & I respect her for it.

Hopefully we can stamp this thing out over the next 4-8 weeks.

Will be interesting to see what the game plan is after 4 weeks. My recommendation would be to use the army to divide the country up into a number of parts maybe 20 & slowly lower the level on each part based on likelyhood of a case arising. Then if a case comes up you can ring fence & quaritine this specific area for 4 weeks. This will mean if we get a few "random" CT cases pop up we won't need to shut down the whole place, we can isolate the specific area.

With all due respect, and I appreciate your posts, this wont be over in 4-8 weeks. We can test 1500 per day. We can do without testing incoming travellers. WhY? We are now in the CT period. Forget the travellers, wasted tests, but force their arrival process to be non contact, no lattes at the cafe. My estimate, is by Xmas we are tidying up bits and pieces. For that to happen, the public needs to be 100% on board. We start testing probable infections for CT. We can temp lockdoem smaller areas and open up other ares, but that all come does to the public. The public. the public. If they are lax, its punitive on them. If we allow the public to be lax, this will dribble on for a long long while

I can't understand why there isn't mass outrage and reporting about this. There's another PC shop that has just emailed me suggesting that, again, they will open to serve general retail customers online post March 24. I am hearing from friends that they are getting similar messages from other online merchants who clearly aren't fitting into the essential business list.

Screw these greedy people. May they all fold and their directors all go to jail.

Yes it is an awesome thing to do. The problem for some landlords is that the rent was possibly  covering the mortgage, and they may have been relying on future capital gains. So if they are not getting the income to cover it, then they could be out of pocket each week, and not sure if insurance would cover this? I am not a landlord myself, but my parents ave been in the past and it can be hard.  All affected landlords should talk to their banks IMO if they might struggle to service the mortgage, if a tenant can't pay enough.

Sadly, buying property is no guarantee of unlimited capital gains and no capital losses. Look at history, nothing new here.

How do you know that the online order is not passed straight to an offshore distributor? Many pc stores just clip the ticket and are not physically involved in the delivery.

Edit Found earlier post suggesting collection from store. That is different.
I did do a click and collect from a prominent pc parts supplier about 10 years ago and the business address was his house. Every room was stacked floor to ceiling, a total shambles. I was not surprised that he closed soon after.

Apparently the army is calling up its reserve personal (territorals). The NZ govt won't be wanting to keep the border shut any longer than it has to. This shut down costs us 1.1 billion dollars a day. If some two bit computer shop thinks they are opening wednesday, I think they will be put in their place quickly.

lol then the govt needs to compulsory quarantine at the border. what's the point in reopening the border to release virus all over again?

LOL, you're the pessimist now? You may be right, it may be too late. It is nice thst they are finally throwing the kitchen sink at it though. At the very least they should have increased their ICU/HDU during the 4 week shut down. I personally think by June this will have played out. We will have stamped it out completely or be counting the death toll. Dividing the country up as I said above will keep the economy going about 70% and allow us to isolate cases as they pop up in regions.

It's not even an offshore distributor, it'll be a middleman for a local distributor. Many online PC parts places, if you track down their details, are a PO Box only or run from someone's back room somewhere, and when the parts turn up they're straight from Ingram Micro or similar.

I imagine this will be announced in the next week. I think they only want to release so much bad news per day

Just realised while chatting with friends, it's a good thing the TP hoarders don't know about the euphemistically-named Bushman's Friend. We've got a ton of if growing on the track down below the house, so at least we're well served.

Re Computer shops - Approx 20% of the workforce already working from home to try keep the wheels turning. And a heap more about to if today was anything to go by.

SME's have been a bit behind the ball.

Sure, some PC shops may be capitalizing on the idea. But a lot of people have just been handed out mobile laptops and devices. (for those not planning procedures all last month and thinking they should better this week - there has been 0 working days since announcing the levels, and them being actioned - it was Saturday. Today is Monday)

Bar a few agencies with established and permitted in-house support remaining and an actual ability to provide sparing and support and so on. Most regular IT support not able to be completed remotely is likely needing to shift to drop-in segregation support.

So if they are not able to make that, or none is established in time. I'm sure the BoFHs would likely appreciate closer satellite help if it's something as silly as a cable resupply or remote hardware diagnosis for those a distance away

Some of the 'essential service' case users are also being sent home to ensure integrity.

I spotted, at a set of lights in Tauranga this arvo, a courier wearing surgical gloves whilst driving. So obviously not changing and disposing between pickups and drop-offs.

POINTLESS

I actually saw someone outside the supermarket using their teeth to help get a surgical glove on🤔
