If you need something like a new board game or shoes, you might still be able to buy them online as long as the business is still able to operate with all its employees at home.

Couriers and NZ Post will continue to operate.

But it might be that many online stores aren't able to stay open so that might limit what you can buy.

You could always look for goods on sites like Facebook Marketplace and Trade Me, as long as the items are posted or are collected in a way so that you don't come into close proximity with the other person.

Ignore that, a bit further down they say schools and ECE are an essential service. They miss noting that only at L3 can Schools be open.

Not sure I trust the rest of the content of that article.

They also say with all its employees at home.. last i checked, the warehouse for most online stores are not their employees homes.. unless they all got sent home with a truck load each..

I am not sure of other regions but Wellington City Council announced rubbish collection will continue as normal. Recycling collection is paused and no information on when it's coming back.

Waste Management says rubbish collection (private) continues as an essential service.

I'm waiting on official confirmation of that yeah. I really hope it's true. I run a PC rental and virtual reality rental business, which is completly online and ran from home, and we ship nationwide using Courier Post. In particular for parents who will have kids with them while they have to work for the next many weeks, I do think this will be a good service to continue to offer.

Just in case anyone wonders, we give the things a hell of a clean between rentals, with Dettol and isolation of headsets between rentals for longer than the virus can survive on surfaces. I'll extremely strongly discourage people from sharing the headset with anyone they don't live with.

Currently we're waiting on an 0800 number to be added to https://covid19.govt.nz/government-actions/covid-19-alert-level/ so we can ask if we'll still be able to trade or not.

I was watching TV3 Newshub, and they had a reporter who was standing outside a Pacnsave and they had apparently interviewed Foodstuffs. They had said that they had spoken to age concern and they apparently weren't interested in specific dedicated hours where older people to get their shopping. But then said that anyone 70 plus shouldn't be shopping at the supermarket anyway, and someone should be shopping for them. As far as I can see, there has been no directive to not allow or recommend that people over 70 not being able to shop at the supermarket, has there?. My parents are 70 + and were planning on doing their normal shop tomorrow morning. Can anyone provide clarity on this? There is so much misinformation and contradictory information out there I am finding,.

Quite clearly this doesn't apply to a significant number of businesses that are still touting for online sales. Those douchebags need to think beyond just what the law requires and move to why we are going there. It's people's lives and well-being that we are talking about. Is some stinking lucre worth everything?

Do they have to be in an actual 'home'. I can see small or medium stores moving all their stock to different peoples houses who are all in isoaltion, and whoever has the goods, then sending it on to the buyer.

If businesses can have employees work from home, then I would imagine dispatching orders from home would constitute work, regardless of whether the product is classed as an essential service. Again though, do Courier's prioritise the pickup of essential products vs non-essential?

If you can't run your home-based online retail business, then by the same standard TradeMe would no longer be able to operate.

The shutdown would only apply to online businesses who dispatch orders from a warehouse and who sell essential products.

This leaves a retailer such as Mighty Ape in a difficult spot. They sell food for example - essential - but also games which are non-essential. Do they close altogether? Do they only ship essential items?

A lot of unanswered questions around online retail business.

If that is the case I can't go myself either because I am immunocompromised which falls under the same thing, which is why I have been very wary of the risks of shopping . I am guessing they will have to do online shopping as they live semi rural and no other family. Is there anywhere it actually says that they shouldn't be going shopping, as I passed outside the supermarket today and there were a lot of older people there?

This NZ herald article dated today says

Keeping people out of the supermarket of a certain age would be incredibly difficult and Welch said such measures would "cause a riot".

From a work point of view I'm hoping our IT supplier is still operating, i ordered gear a week ago with 2 week lead time for some of the staff who don't have kit at home.

Then wondering if we have enough stuff, aside from essentials (food etc) to amuse the family at home for a month. Grabbed a Chromebook last week for the 8yo's home learning, just hope we have enough bits and pieces to distract the 5yo before we tear each other apart.

Aside from the serious side (of which I'm fully aware) I'm interested in the the outcomes of the lock down experience within the family dynamic and the local community.
