So it turns out that I was at the house of the person who got the virus through community transmission in Auckland on Saturday night. She is a Virgin flight attendant and was on-call a week or so ago but never flew. She was in a room where they pick flight attendants for flights - someone there also turned out to be infected so transmission probably from him.

She is a friend who was in self isolation at another friends house. I went there not knowing she was in self-isolation! A bit annoyed at my other friend for not telling me before I came and only heard from her once I was there. We heard today she tested positive.

Anyway I never got closer to her than 7m (we talked opposite ends of the hallway) but I did use a bathroom she had used. I did wash my hands thoroughly, didn't use the hand towel and used my elbow to open door and turn off the light switch.

Not sure my risk but now I'm stuck at home with the family so hope I didn't get it to pass it on! No symptons yet.....

If that is the case I can't go myself either because I am immunocompromised which falls under the same thing, which is why I have been very wary of the risks of shopping .

Try Neighbourly as your first port of call, there are all sorts of initiatives there to provide supplies for people who can't go out. My mother lives in an area with a lot of older people who are being supplied by neighbours; we're signed up to provide for our neighbours.

I would get tested ASAP, and not be at home with the family for the next fortnight.

That means full-time employees should get $585 a week for up to 12 weeks and part-time employees (fewer than 20 hours a week) should get $350 a week.

This will be paid through your normal payroll channels.”

I do wish they would remember that not everyone reading their advice has an employer other than themselves. Quite a few people reading probably want advice for the self employed.

They had said that they had spoken to age concern and they apparently weren't interested in specific dedicated hours where older people to get their shopping. But then said that anyone 70 plus shouldn't be shopping at the supermarket anyway, and someone should be shopping for them. As far as I can see, there has been no directive to not allow or recommend that people over 70 not being able to shop at the supermarket, has there?. My parents are 70 + and were planning on doing their normal shop tomorrow morning. Can anyone provide clarity on this? There is so much misinformation and contradictory information out there I am finding,.

Certainly, fixed hours for elderly etc is being used in the UK, as my mother has taken advantage of it. I would think that it should happen here.

If it isn’t official, then the first supermarket to offer it will get extra business.

That is really the big question, how contagious is it? From what you have said, I would be very surprised if you have caught it. I was in a restaurant in Carterton last week, where they believe their are others in the community with it, which I feel a little uneasy with, so potentially there are others around the area incubating it.

It also shows the problem with people remaining in their homes, that are shared with other people, that can go in and out of the house. Surprised there wasn't some warning piece of paper near the front door as you entered to warn you as you entered.

I can't understand why there isn't mass outrage and reporting about this. There's another PC shop that has just emailed me suggesting that, again, they will open to serve general retail customers online post March 24. I am hearing from friends that they are getting similar messages from other online merchants who clearly aren't fitting into the essential business list.

Screw these greedy people. May they all fold and their directors all go to jail.

So how do people working at home deal with IT issues if they’re self employed unless there are appropriate shops available?

I was in Carterton District Council’s office on Monday last week. The Wairarapa case works there!

I had reason to call them today and did ask whether he’d been there. They said no, he doesn’t work in that building at all.

I just got an email from New World and Pac n Save (both owned by same parent) tonight, with their reasoning below. It looks like their reasoning is because doing this would be in conflict with the ministry of health's guidance that no people over 70 should be in the store anyway. But I can't find any official guidance on the MOHs website saying this, maybe someone has seen this and can post the link?

I'm so confused about this and I'm seeing so much different information all over the place.

Employer applies for subsidy > Gets Subisdy > Pays Employees 80% of their normal wage.

Or does the Employer pay the Employee $580/$350? (Depending on their normal work hours)

Or is it a mix of both? Can an Employee pay someone 100% of their wage or only 80%?

Can anyone ELI5 please? Thanks!

These are the COVID 19 shopping guidelines I was sent by New World, but I think they are similar to the same notice I was sent from Paknsave, due to them being owned by the same parent company.

Reduced store hours

Individual stores will determine their own operating hours and may choose to reduce them to be able to restock shelves. Individual stores will make this call based on the needs of their community. Staff protection measures

You will begin to see various staff protection measures in place at your local store including staff wearing masks, protective screens at checkout, and floor decals, communicating the appropriate 2m physical distancing length. We ask you to please comply with store signage and staff direction to maintain physical distancing.

The data shows that overwhelmingly transmission occurs in families where there is sustained close contact. And even families it's I think about 10%.

This bug is spread by droplets which can't reach more then 2 m between people, but there may be aerosols near toilets caused by flushing. However it's unclear if those virus are in sufficient quantities to cause infection. Close the lid when flushing, and wash hands

I can't speak for the supermarkets but everyone needs to shop otherwise panic buying was actually justified. And if you're 70+ you also need to shop unless you can find someone else to do it for you where they aren't doing online shopping.

Why not keep people out of the shop? They bring their lists and you stay in your car until it's ready. You drive to the shop front, you pay contactless using mobile terminal, and then they load your car for you? Keep workers and customers segregated. We don't want supermarkets also closing down after someone gets accidentally exposed.

I tried to get Siouxsie Wiles/Murdoch to answer this in the zoom webinar but this question wasn't passed to her. My expectation is that NZ won't get a flu season this year if we remain on lockdown excluding international travelers.

But maybe the epidemiologists can answer this. It may be completely new territory.
