Finch:

I'm so confused about this and I'm seeing so much different information all over the place.

Employer applies for subsidy > Gets Subisdy > Pays Employees 80% of their normal wage.

Or does the Employer pay the Employee $580/$350? (Depending on their normal work hours)

Or is it a mix of both? Can an Employee pay someone 100% of their wage or only 80%?

Can anyone ELI5 please? Thanks!

Along with other requirements to receive the subsidy, you agree to pay your employee AT MINIMUM, 80% of their normal pay.
If the $580 / $350 is less than 80%, you top it up from 'your own pocket'
Nothing stopping you paying 100% of the employees wage if you want / can

So domestic and international flights are going to continue. Virus will continue to come in.

Batman: So domestic and international flights are going to continue. Virus will continue to come in.

Indeed, seems very pointless to put all these measures in place...

Example.

Someone comes from oversea 3 weeks 5 days from now, we've had not new cases for 20 days..

The overseas person goes to an essential service, infects another person (both show no symptoms).

5-10 days after that, maybe after country is declared clear, we go back to normal life...

Then a few days after normal life another case, and back to Level 4 we go....

So now assume this happens on day 402 of level 4 (Vaccine still not ready but getting closer)...

Is it a good idea to have people from overseas coming home?

Nope, they had a chance, on Wednesday last week when Govt, provided a call to come home now.

Despite wanting to - some people won't have been able to get home.

If the # of cases starts to drop in few days (very likely), and there's limited numbers of new arrivals, then maybe redundant hotels in NZ could be used as strict quarantine facilities.

We shouldn't prevent our own citizens from coming home.  That's not how a country should look after its citizens if there's any practical alternative.

Sure, but this isn't what is happening.

Everyone interacting with them (all airport staff, bus drivers etc) also need to be in lock down without touching anyone else..

WHO launches global megatrial of the four most promising coronavirus treatments

https://www.sciencemag.org/news/2020/03/who-launches-global-megatrial-four-most-promising-coronavirus-treatments

That paints a somewhat less rosy picture of the hope for there already being a simple easy effective and inexpensive treatment based on existing available and generally regarded as safe drugs - that politicians (not here) have promoted with some alarmingly stupid claims.

I think we need to trust that the people making decisions about this will do the right thing.

There are plenty of possible options - land planes at Ohakea etc, use dedicated transport to transfer them to quarantine facilities. They're not going to shut down the entire country the way they have without considering how to deal with this.

I'm curious what you are doing to help your community. Not the mandated stuff, what you are doing above that.

The reason I am curious is that if I get sick and die from this virus I'd like to know what people who say my wife and kids can't return home are doing to help those around them.

Oh please...

I think it's reasonable to make a decision not to bother watching "vlogs" from anybody that begin with, or are presented with hysterical headlines like that.

LOL, you're the pessimist now? You may be right, it may be too late. It is nice thst they are finally throwing the kitchen sink at it though. At the very least they should have increased their ICU/HDU during the 4 week shut down. I personally think by June this will have played out. We will have stamped it out completely or be counting the death toll. Dividing the country up as I said above will keep the economy going about 70% and allow us to isolate cases as they pop up in regions.

LOL not a pessimist at all, a realist. Forget the incoming counts that everyone is obsessed with and focus on future CT. Im not sure they are focusisng the kitchen sink on it, its merely a lockdown. People will still be moving around, and I assume the free flow of onfections at the airports will still continue. Yes it may play out by June, it all depends if they want to test known travellers or ignore them, force them home and focus on CT which is now in AKL and Wairarapa, plus the unknown CT. Are GP's sending data to MoH based on what they are seeing? Normal cold numbers normal flu numbers? I hope so

Dividing the country up is wrong, a logistical nightmare, never happen

I can't understand why there isn't mass outrage and reporting about this. There's another PC shop that has just emailed me suggesting that, again, they will open to serve general retail customers online post March 24. I am hearing from friends that they are getting similar messages from other online merchants who clearly aren't fitting into the essential business list.

Screw these greedy people. May they all fold and their directors all go to jail.

So how do people working at home deal with IT issues if they’re self employed unless there are appropriate shops available?

Yes, I can’t really see the reason for any outrage here. Surely we should keep as many areas of the economy going that can do so without enhancing the spread of the virus.

I imagine govt would/will clamp down on parcel deliveries if virus spread was considered an issue but I would think risk is pretty low.

Great, we can continue to watch infection counts that werent generated here, Id rather watch counts generated here and how we are focussing on those  /smh

We need quarantine for those, then they dont figure in what is an internal problem to solve
