I can't comment about online as I don't know, but almost all of the Microsoft Stores have them back in stock now

Its the cheapest wearable on the market with GPS
its the only wearable on the market that supports Android as well as iOS as well as Windows phone

The reviews that say it is uncomfortable to wear, I don't know what they are on about.  I don't know anyone with a band who finds it uncomfortable, maybe we are all biased but I don't think so.

DuncanMcC: Well... it's now mid January - and buying one of these things - is it worth it? - still seems a hard thing - even in the USA let alone New Zealand...

* Bing NZ's still beta - how long has it been now? - how many *years*?
* so Cortana isn't a great option given the US settings required to fudge it
* so a Band doesn't seem a good idea in NZ yet (?)
* and even if one wanted to purchase, it has to be online ... "More coming early 2015. Check back in 2015, or visit your local Microsoft Store for product availability."  It's a Tui ad eh.

They *look* good, but yet to see a complimentary review.

BillGates - what do you think of your Band?

My wife is using the Microsoft Band and absolutely loves it.

In terms of comfort issues I haven't had any - though it's a little more noticeable than the Fitbit Charge if you're wearing it through the night for sleep tracking.

I suggest you compare it with what else is available (there aren't that many strong contenders in the fitness wearables area yet) and consider that it's not officially supported locally then decide from there. Right now it's reasonably unique in the market.

Hmmm? Fitbit comes to mind, supporting Android, iOS, Windows 8.1 and Windows Phone.

Well I'd be keen to try one on.  I don't know if MS had a store in Christchurch - the last known location for them was a wee office in an old building in Manchester Street.  Don't think it exists anymore - actually most of the buildings in Manchester Street don't exist anymore :)

Microsoft Stores are like Apple Stores - consumer/retail locations. They don't exist in New Zealand.

Band has only been released in the US, so you'd have to parallel import one or buy one from someone who has sorry

CHCH office was Level 2, 225 High Street and has now closed, CHCH employees are working from home

To add... it seems (from at least one review) that if you don't get a good fit, the data can be quite inaccurate.  And I don't want that! :)

I've also been trying to find out if it has. like a "medic alert" type feature.  A sorta emergency function that could TXT or phone - any method really.  I doubt I'll get my Mum to wear one, but you never know.  My mum's totally deaf - so vibrate alert would be good too, along with a screen 'flash'.

(Reminds me of her Android phone (S3), alerts can trigger the camera flash - Windows Phone need that feature - please pass on Nathan :)  )

I have been wearing MS Band for a month. I paid USD40 more to a "shopping agent" in the US to buy it for me.

Currently MS Band is the most powerful fitness band as well as the cheapest one on the market. The latest Fitbit Surge can match some of the Band's functions but it costs USD50 more than the Band. I have read some reviews regarding the Band and Surge. The Band beats Surge on almost everything except the battery life.

I love the Band and wear it 22 hours a day for a month. I just feel it is comfortable. It is almost the same size as Garmin Vivofit  (which can be found in noel leeming, Harvey Norman and Dick Smith) except the band part is a little bit thicker.

Just hope the Band can come back to the online shop soon. I will buy more for my family members.

They are deliberately launching it US only as they normally do with first gen hardware products.

Makes supply chain a hell of a lot easier, particularly on something with as many moving parts as the band.

Expect worldwide when we get to gen 2 or gen 3 - in roughly 2-5 years. In the meantime, YouShop.

Would quite like one of these since I use windows phone. Ended up getting a Garmin vivofit in the mean time. I am going to the US on holiday in August so might have a look at these if I get the chance.
