Yes, just because you have the QR on your phone is meaningless. The QR has Name + DOB so I would expect DL / Passport / HANZ or whatever photo ID to make sure they match.

Really interested to see what plays out in legislation and how enforcement will work.

Likewise - I can't imagine there are swathes of 12-15 year olds with passports. The verification that the presenter of the QR code is indeed the person named is going to be very interesting.

@Handle9 - I vaguely remember you mentioning something about how the system worked where you are - would you mind explaining it briefly again please?

NZ is essentially copying the EU system. I was in Europe a couple of weeks ago for work and the app there is a QR code without a photo and venues scan the app to verify you can be there. Europe generally works on a 3G (geimpft, genesen, getestet) principle- you need to be vaccinated, have had Covid and recovered or had a recent test. Some places it’s 2G only (vaccinated or recovered). The app doesn’t have any indication how you are qualified, just that you do qualify.

Here it’s more comprehensive and explicit- the app has a photo, ID card and passport details, dates and type of vaccination and all your test records. Privacy is much less of a concern here than western countries.

But when you are at venues you won't be logging into the site, that is your private information rather than anything else.

The site is the gateway for you to get the "COVID Pass" QR loaded on your phone or able to download the PDF version to print out.

As shown on the previous screen, all it has is name + dob + the time range the pass is valid, nothing else.

To say privacy isn't a concern in NZ is just wrong.

And this is my whole point of this thread, logging into the site is a pain, and will be hard for less technically minded NZers especially the elderly but once you have logged in getting the QR Pass itself will be a case of clicking a button and then hitting accept into the iOS Wallet or Google Pay "Passes" exactly how TicketMaster and other systems work.

That's not what was said. @Handle9 isn't in NZ. As stated, where they are, privacy isn't as much of a concern as in western countries.

For those who have elderly parents with iPhones, it might be worth considering using the Shortcuts app to allow easy access to the vaccine certificate. I am thinking that you would add an icon to the main Home Screen which brings up the Apple Wallet document or PDF file straight away, without the user having to understand how to navigate through to opening them manually.

The problem is that a lot of people won't understand the concept of Apple Wallet or downloading a PDF to their phone. Or they might not have a phone that even allows this.

So, they will end up logging into the site on their mobile browser every time they want to show their vaccine certificate because they believe that this is the only way to do it.

This is why I think a printed version should be promoted as the preferred option for non technical users.

That’s the misunderstanding that I think a few folks on here have. I’m fairly certain the site won’t show the official QR that needs to be scanned.

So the site will have 2 links on it but not the QR that needs to be scanned. One to download the PDF for you to print yourself or if you choose show the PDF on your phone and the other to install the QR into your phone as the iOS Wallet for Apple or Google Pay for Android. So then you double tap on your power button and get something similar to this.. but with your QR down the bottom.

If you want to get an idea of the journey there are plenty of sites that let you add to your wallet like. https://passkit.com/samples/ That is what I used to create the below.

A friend had a problem with the Drivers License.
They did their First, Middle, Surname.

Using example below:  First        YYYYY
                                  Middle     ZZZZZ aaaaa
                                  Surname  xxxxx

But it failed.

Looked at their drivers license and it has

Surname:
xxxxx

First names
YYYYY
ZZZZZ aaaaa

Looked correct , but it was not happy with the name.
Had another go guessing that this meant no middle name , and write the first names all in first name ?
No luck, now its exceed the 2 retries ?  Maybe its either or ?

Or they had it right and it was something else.

Now looking for other identification hoping the same problem does not occur with that.
I'm now glad my parents thought middle names were a thing of the past.
Very limited retries that's harsh.

If they have a passport they could try that.

Could be easily created as a Wallet Pass which is easily accessible from the lock screen on iPhones

This project I found on Github works with EU QR codes but could be easily modified to work with NZ ones

After some puzzling, they were very nervous as their tech support (me) failed.

Passports don't list things as First, Middle, Surname either it seems.
Just the First and Middle on one line and Surname on another.

So tried with First and Middle names all entered in First Name, Middle Name blank, and Surname.

This worked first time fortunately.

Just quite panicky for an old person worried about limited retry, fumble fingers.
With no other Id handy.

No issues at all signing up using our driver licenses.  Seemed simple enough.  But cannot sign up my 13 year old...how are the <16 year old's meant to get proof of vaccination using this system?

So, if I read the NZHerald correctly this morning. “MoH has announced Spark subsidiary Mattr has been appointed to develop vaccine passes for use domestically and internationally.”

Well knock me over with a feather, but why has this only just been done?

Or am I misreading this? Wouldn’t be the first time.

Kinda. They are a few days behind. It was outlined in the more appropriate https://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=161&topicid=290002&page_no=4#2808166
