Bung:
neb: That doesn't sound right... that'd mean you've got a possible Covid case who's in close contact with a second person who's free to mix in the community as they please.

Regardless this is from the covid19,govt.nz instructions

"While you are self-isolating, any household members you have not travelled with can come and go as normal — unless you return a positive COVID-19 test."

That seems reasonable. Remember, self-isolating doesn't just mean hanging around your house with you though. The website lists the following as examples of advice for self-isolating:

  • Limit contact with others you live with — for example, sleep by yourself and limit the time you spend in shared spaces. If you cannot, you should stay at least 2 metres apart and wear a face mask that covers your nose and mouth when near others.
  • Do not share items with others in your household — for example, dishes, toothbrushes, and towels.
  • Do your own laundry.
  • Do not have visitors in your home.

Had the booster yesterday, 5months+ wait period.

It has knocked me a day after! I reckon I need a sleep!

Also had it yesterday (4 month wait). Just a sore arm so far, but that's all I had after the first two too.

Home from hospital, so that's nice. Feeling safer at home in many ways. Wore a N95 pretty much 24/7 the whole stay, which wasn't too bad, but hardly a nothing. I woke two mornings with a sore throat, which resolved over the day, but the staff didn't want a bar of it. I figured I'd end up at least with a test. I got the distinct feeling avoiding a test and the related protocols that might have ended up needing to happen would have been quite a lot for them to deal with. They were short-staffed over the weekend as well.

I have total respect for the nurses and doctors who have really tough jobs but still maintain professionalism and caring attitudes throughout. It's amazing.

I was surprised how few staff wore n95's. It did vary a lot, but overall I'd guess perhaps only 20%.

Noise-cancelling headphones made all the difference, best money I've spent on headphones ever.

This is my first post on this thread, so I'm sorry if my questions have already been answered.

I'm wondering what's likely to happen when everyone in NZ has come in contact with the latest version of Covid. Omicron is working its way closer to our small Southland town so it's probably only a matter of days before we see cases here.

It seems inevitable that, no matter how my wife and I try to avoid it, we will eventually be infected with the latest variant. We're both triple-jabbed but I haven't seen any stats that show how effective this degree of protection will be against mutant strains of the virus, or for how long.

There were around 800 new cases reported yesterday and the day before 12th and 13th of February. Apparently there have been 981 new cases reported today. Has anyone seen analyses of these figures that indicate how many of these cases were un-vaccinated, or had one jab, two jabs, three jabs etc?

No but you will sometimes get a summary of the ratio of vax to unvax who are currently in hospital.

I'd like to see more break down by age for example.

Sucks being held hostage at the mercy of others who think it's an annoyance in their life than something they can stop eh.

The daughter's school sent an email last night warning of someone who attended the school for two days while showing symptoms.

Apparently 50 close contacts - we didn't receive a notification so might have dodged that one for now.

I hear many of the journalists at Parliament apart from Barry Soper are having to isolate because someone tested positive in a RAT test.

I have received 3 primary vaccinations and I am due for the booster next month. My specialist has advised that I will have good protection but use a lot of caution. We have notices on our doors at home that no one can enter if they are not vaccinated and we ask to see vaccine certificates. I still have a lot of anxiety about Covid 19.

It will be interesting what effect the booster will have as the third primary shot gave me a few side effects but no show stoppers.

What is up with people acting normally even when they have symptoms? Especially something like sending your kids to school or going to work. I guess they could have been mild symptoms, who hasn't woken up with a niggly throat and wondered?

To be honest, I've sent my kids to school seemingly well to have them develop illnesses during the day. I'd not send an obviously unwell kid to school, but very mild symptoms could be relatively hard to detect.

Unless you are lining your kids up and giving them an examination, test and cross-examination every day, these sorts of things will happen. You do your best and sometimes people will get it wrong.

There will be exceptions of course, but I understand the challenges with not sending kids to school if you have two essential workers in a household etc..

Mike, how did you come to get 3 primary shots? Re a 4th shot for you, AFAIK they're all the same Pfizer dose anyway. I'd happily rush off and get a 4th if it was offered. I had no reactions to 1 and 2. After getting the third the jab site was slightly sore for a couple of days. I'm 81.

People on specific medications or who have particular medical conditions, including those who may be immunocompromised will end up with 3 primary doses and a booster.
