Similar in my albeit limited experience (not out & about a lot).  Possibly a bit more than 50:50 for checking.  Auckland.

Not very common here in Auckland. Perhaps 20% of the time if that. I was especially surprised yesterday at Sylvia Park Mall -- visited heaps of shops doing my xmas shopping and I can only recall one occasion I was asked for it. Checking passes to be more of a thing for independent stores than mall stores. However on the other hand mask wearing compliant is very good which is a relief.

I thought it wasn't required for retail stores so no need for them to ask for it?

I visited my local RSA on Friday and they were checking everyone's pass. Also visited my local McDonalds and ate in and they had no one checking passes (hardly surprising, they always seem to be understaffed with the few staff they do have running around like crazy).

I thought that was only "essential retail" like supermarkets etc

Correct. Only close contact (hair dresser etc) and hospo as you are seated, close proximity, long period, and generally unmasked
Throw in a takeaway only clause, you also don't need to. Optionally you may adopt. But there's no advantage to the operator outside those who must to operate.

As reply above - essential retail can not require the pass. Others can if they want too. Hospitality and close proximity services are mandated to.

So called "basic needs" businesses (which includes supermarkets, dairies, pharmacies and petrol stations) are not allowed to operate under a vaccine pass requirement and can not restrict entry based on this.

Retail stores are all exempt from vaccine pass requirements for customers. They can opt to operate under a vaccine pass requirement if they want, but need to have appropriate signage up saying they are operating under this.

Hospitality or places where people may eat / remove masks or deemed close proximity services ie hairdressers, beauty salon, massage etc all need to operate under a vaccine pass requirement. This includes mall food courts.

Anybody operating under a vaccine pass system needs to have clear signage up stating this, because they are allowed to switch between the two.

Thanks for the clarification. I had incorrectly assumed it was only supermarkets and the like that did not require vaccine passes -- and that everyone else had to do it. My bad. So what I saw at Sylvia Park makes sense now. Seems a bit crazy given we are currently at the highest level in this system that this sort of thing is permitted -- makes me think there is probably not much use dropping down to Orange anytime soon as Red already offers almost normal freedom. I am still concerned at the shoulder to shoulder crowd I saw there but hopefully the mass mask wearing (which was actually really good there) is helping to reduce the risk.

I have just received a vaccine pass QR code from MoH for my overseas vaccinations, however they haven’t actually entered the vaccinations on the CIR. So it seems that they have decided the exemption letter wasn’t working out, and just issued actual passes instead.

When I scan the QR code’s for entering places in the COVID Applic, I don’t always get the option to open the Vaccine Pass from the COVID Applic.

Is it business dependant on this option coming up?

?  Wasn't aware that was a thing.

But I just tested it (have a QR code here at home).  Down the bottom of the screen it says 'View My Vaccine Pass / Open Google Pay'.  However, initially the link took me to the App Store to DL and install Google Pay.  Which is odd because I have GPay installed & had put the vaccine pass in it.  After a bit of fiddling around I got GPay to open and the pass was indeed there.  Re-scanned the QR code and now the link at the bottom does take me to GPay.  But not really so useful as there are other cards there.

Think I will stick with opening the pass from the link I put on the home screen (which thankfully has remained there since day 1)

On iOS I find it more convenient from the QR code scan.  It goes straight to pass, and saves me opening wallet and selecting it over credit card. It appears above the Okay button after scanned in.

Places it hasn’t shown up are a rest home, chemist.

Places it did show up, two restaurants, Raeward Fresh.

I didn’t need to use at Raeward Fresh, but the Rest Home wants people to scan in.

That makes much more sense and would be useful

As mentioned previously, in Android (well at least on my phone = S8) the message says 'View My Vaccine Pass / Open Google Pay'.  And that is what it does.  Not helpful.

Wonder why the difference between iOS and Android versions?

My Employer wants me to email my vaccination pass to them. I don’t understand why my manager scanning it is not enough.

Can they demand a copy of the PDF with the QR code on it? I didn’t think the QR code was for sharing, just for other parties to scan to verify.

Unfortunately. See my prior mention from the legislation. It allows people to 'obtain a copy' for proving status of those undertaking business 'as required' to meet the legislation that says you must prove you be jabbed to do stuff.

You also need to UL a snip of it to AirNZ to do their fancy scan of it.
