This is why I think a printed version should be promoted as the preferred option for non technical users.

Yip, this + lots ... even for the tech savvy

Print,  laminate and stick to back of phone... or stick on to a dead ertpos  card....and stick in your wallet

Given it is passive and has to be scanned (doesn't appear to be a NFC option)  than having a simply printout on the back of your phone seems to be the simplest solution.

NFC would open a whole world of pain. Lots of development on both sides, including needing a client side pass, but more importantly the business scanner would need specific hardware as the capabilities of iOS and Android devices to request an NFC Pass is somewhat limited:

I really love NFC, but it's my personal view that the user experience is terrible for anything other than contactless payments.

A friend had a problem with the Drivers License.
They did their First, Middle, Surname.

Using example below:  First        YYYYY
                                  Middle     ZZZZZ aaaaa
                                  Surname  xxxxx

But it failed.

Looked at their drivers license and it has

Surname:
xxxxx

First names
YYYYY
ZZZZZ aaaaa

Looked correct , but it was not happy with the name.
Had another go guessing that this meant no middle name , and write the first names all in first name ?
No luck, now its exceed the 2 retries ?  Maybe its either or ?

Or they had it right and it was something else.

Now looking for other identification hoping the same problem does not occur with that.
I'm now glad my parents thought middle names were a thing of the past.
Very limited retries that's harsh.

Tried yesterday and today using my NZ License (no Kiwi Passport). Failed both times despite having my license in front of me and checking very carefully.

I am told I have one more chance, after that I don't know what happens.

But, I am wondering whether it is because my license expired during Auckland lockdown and I cannot renew until my local AA re-opens.

Rang contact telephone no. for mycovidrecord.nz. They couldn't help, but they gave me 0800 222 478 (M-F 8-5) to ring.

Rang them and they re-set my number of attempts, but said it was an expired Driver License that was the problem.

Sighhhhh .

Man that is so stupid.

You don't suddenly stop being you, just because your drivers license expired while it was difficult to renew.

Presumably they have a way to tag licenses that are withdrawn due to identity theft etc.

The whole system is going to be hard enough with people of variable IT ability and quality, without being pedantic.

Hmm, I wonder if my friend was due to their license being a student one , though it was valid.
For many this is their only best ID they have with them.

Hopefully they have given some good 'practical' suggestions on how you prove you is you.

Ohh ya know it’s just your health records and crazy pro-plaugers are being a vocal minority. But sure let’s lower the barrier for entry further.

I got this email last night from the Ministry of Health.

I setup my account using RealMe several days ago, so it's not me trying to do this now.

So I spent 45 minutes on hold this morning, only to be told by the representative that they had no idea what that email meant and I should just ignore it.

Sigh. So I did that, but just now, I got another one. I'm not ringing them back.

Has anyone else received one of these?

(Soz: I posted this first in one of the other covid threads and then instantly realised it belonged in this one)

I assume when creating an account using an email address you have to validate it?

If that's the case perhaps an account you started creating but didn't complete. Tried using a reset password function (is there one)?

I received a similar email a couple of days ago:

FWIW: It was sent ~2 days after I created an account, which I did in one go (without starting/stopping or needing multiple verification emails).

Not some kind of phishing scam? Is that hyperlink actually pointing to identity.health.nz?

Not exactly: http://url9256.identity.health.nz/ls/click, which at least seems to be under the correct domain. It passes SPF and DKIM checks for @identity.health.nz too.

My wife also had the random email two days later, I suspect something has got bent out of shape with their emailing / registration system especially if you registered via RealMe and if you had problems the first time around receiving the notification emails to complete registration like I did and it is safe to ignore them. Just surprised the helpdesk folks were not aware of it and will find my contact in MoH and let them know.
