Regardless of how you read the data my original query still stands.

I want to only use a supermarket with fully vaccinated staff.

I'd like to use a supermarket that requires a vaccine pass - but that isn't going to happen - so I'll take a vaccine mandate.

Did this 2019 Countdown proposal get implemented?

"Countdown will open the country's first dedicated online store in Auckland in response to the rapid growth in online delivery sales.

Inside, the store would look similar to a regular supermarket, but bigger and without the normal shop-fit out. It would have a produce area, a bakery and deli, grocery aisles and a chilled food section.

But there would be no customers.

Countdown digital general manager Sally Copland said the store, which was under construction in Penrose, would open in April (2020??).

The centre, would fulfil online delivery orders for Mt Wellington, St Johns, Three Kings, Ponsonby, Mt Eden, Grey Lynn Central, Botany, Manukau City Mall, Meadowlands and Manurewa, Copland said."

If so that removes other customers who could be handling the items you are so worried about.

Both extremes. One elderly and one a teenager..

For an elderly person isolating and taking extra precautions is a little easier. I can’t begin to imagine how difficult it is for a teenager to be in this position and really feel for you. We can only hope this will end soon so that young lives don’t suffer. I am sure you will find the right balance for them both.

We just got a note from our medical centre in the Southern suburbs that Covid is now in the area and that consultations will be via phone or video. The uplifting part of the message was...

*and we expect there will be more of this over the next few weeks, then hopefully peak and then subside.*

Yes they are operating a "grey" or "virtual" store deliveries, but we're outside the zone.

Also this isn't an Auckland specific request.

I personally prefer to shop and spend time where those I would come in to contact with are vaccinated. I accept that in public places this will mean some of the general public are unvaccinated (a small-ish number), and that cannot be controlled for, as much as I too would be happy with vaccine pass requirements being more widespread.

Along these lines, I would prefer to use businesses where the team members working there are vaccinated. I'll happily share what I know:

Bunnings - Recommended and strongly encouraged, but not required or mandated except in some roles.

Kmart - Recommended and encouraged, but not mandated.

The Warehouse Group (The Warehouse, Warehouse Stationery, Noel Leeming, Torpedo7) - Mandated/Required.

I can advise that the AA (Automobile Association) has mandated that all staff must be vaccinated.

AA also advising members of possible closures and delays.

Had emails from Countdown and PacnSave today also advising of shortages and delays due to the possibility of staff getting Covid and that they are increasing hygiene and sanitation measures.

Countdown staff are mandated and also any delivery drivers / contractors who go on site also has to be fully vaccinated.

Eva888: As per the CDC link above

*CDC expects that anyone with Omicron infection can spread the virus to others, even if they are vaccinated or don’t have symptoms.*

I’m not sure where my statement that anyone vaccinated or not can spread the virus is incorrect.

Actually "can" is fair and a reasonable assumption for basic modelling, but it's not "will" and it's not a reason not to get vaccinated or to be fearful about going out of the house if you are vaccinated.
