Your wife may have it and be asymptomatic. That's one of the ways this virus spread so well. Some people infected with it have no symptoms (that they are aware of).....

Rant away! Sorry the testing is being slow. That's been a problem all over the world when a wave starts......it can be hard to keep up.

She had symptoms and her PCR test came back negative 3 days ago. Doesn't preclude her being positive, but likely not.

There are some scenarios that could play out in our household that could see us stuck in isolation for a couple of weeks, unfortunately.

It's difficult, but it is what it is. I understand why there are delays, even predicted it, but when you are caught up in it and all the uncertainty, it can be a bit of a challenge.

We aren't far off the 5 days deadline after which they discard samples, so if that happens, then we will have to all go and have a RATS tomorrow, with the 2.5 hour queues!

Frustratingly, 3 of my clients were tested over the weekend and had their results back in between 12 and 18 hours!

Someone has to be first and last :)

Flatmate is showing cold symptoms, but seems like there is a cold going around at the moment, there was a COVID case at the gym we go to last week. So we have a possible source and symptoms.

She's about to start back at Otago Uni, and it seems students are making interesting choices in that part of town, so even if she doesn't have it now, while it won't be her fault, it's on the doorstep.

I am now self isolating until her result comes back.

Work is being very understanding, but at the same time there is a bit of a feeling of letting the side down being unable to go in. Better than giving them all COVID mind you.

My daughter is likely to be a close contact, delay in PCR results mean nothing official yet but some of her close contacts have tested positive via RATs. She has mild symptoms so as we are day five from contact I was about to que up but got told it was a very long wait. I phoned the doctor and we were in and out in 5mins for a PCR, meanwhile friend is still in que after 2hours and just got told they are going on lunch break so keep waiting.

Wife and I both ok to work from home so not much of an impact yet apart from stress, kids are not happy but are very understanding.

GP's don't have RATS yet (Don't even get me started!) so it would be a PCR, with another potential 5 day wait! Can't really deal with that. Only CBAC Clinics have the RATS for testing right now is my understanding.

I long for the day that this nightmare is over but I fear that day will never come.

For people sick of the rabble in Wellington holding the country to ransom, consider signing the change.org petition telling them to go home. While they'll ignore it, it'll give the politicians/police a clear mandate to take action.

I wouldn't be too pessimistic in the sense that things will never get better again, but I do think they will never be the way they were again. We have entered a new era.

Not wanting to downplay Covid too much but there are people on here whose families have survived brutal dictatorships, total war, and genocide. Compared to what some of our parents and grandparents went through, this is an inconvenience. For starters, everyone would be about 99.9% certain they'll wake up OK tomorrow...

The politicians and police already have a clear mandate to take action. We elected the politicians and they exercised their right to trespass them from the grounds. That makes their occupation illegal giving the police a clear mandate to evict them. They are choosing to do nothing about it, a petition won't change that.

Can we not have a THIRD discussion running in parallel on the same topic. There are two other political threads where this could be discussed.

Ah, sorry, deleted my reply, please move any responses other than "I've signed" elsewhere, wherever elsewhere is.

neb: They don't have a clear mandate, they have a certain amount of legal ability to do things but the technical details are quite complex and get quite sticky quickly, I can type some of them up if required but it's a lot of typing. For a clear mandate they need widespread public support, which is what the petition will give them.

And my point is they have the public support. There's a 1,000 of them on parliament grounds and 4.99Mn of us staying home. Surely that's enough?

I don't personally share the pessimism. Omicron is an upper respiratory infection, much like the other four coronaviruses that are already endemic.

The next few months will be difficult, but for the remainder of our lifetimes it will circulate at low levels every winter and cause minimal disruption. Coronaviruses don't mutate at the same rate as influenza, so mutations will slow down as the global community achieves more immunity.

That's usually the case, but this one is different it seems. Immunity doesn't last long. New variants appear as more and more people are infected. So having it circulate endlessly represents a very real risk. Going back to 'normal' would be denial of that risk ....having already lost millions of people in 2 years because 'normal' was bad and wrong.

To learn nothing from this would be ....very sad, really.
