Oblivian: Take your own head out of the thread for a moment. It was a legitimate question that requires following up if not correct.

If it didn't indicate you can still scan. Then they need to be advised your device, version and what was experienced.

Change comes from getting things wrong, and trying to get fixes. Just like the other changes made, you could decide to help the developers correct it on her behalf.

Unsure what I posted that got your back up, however...

It did let me scan, but it involved extra steps outside of tbe normal routine to do so. My point is that the log out itself is enough to throw many naive users off, irrespective of what the next steps are.

Hopefully the developers are reading this. Hopefully they will remove the auto log out. I've separately provided feedback to MoH as well.

We are watching this thread with interest - thanks for the feedback and ideas.

Jon

Experienced my first forced log out yesterday.

I don't care if it's best practice, none of my other apps do this and this app, above all others, should make the user process as seamless as possible to encourage ongoing use.

I can see how elderly, or those not used to smart phones, could get easily 'thrown' by being directed back to a logon screen they don't recognise, esp. as many would have had family members complete the initial set up and logon process for them.

I have heaps of apps log me out all the time. Usually with no warning. Its ridiculous when the details to log back in are all stored on the phone so its a one push thing to get back in to log it out, but half the smarthome apps all seem to do that. Great when you need them. Also some shopping ones do.

Pointless as forced password changes but people do it because some moron said "best practice" once so they all keep on doing it.

Got my second logout today too. I almost just put the phone away and carried on with my day, but I took a second look and saw the scan option.

Thankfully, logging back in was simple this time too due to saved credentials. Last time it took 2 days before I remembered and had the time to dick around resetting the password I'd forgotten.
If it had been the same circus this time I'd have ditched the app for good.

Is the 'edit' function supposed to work? I forgot to sign in to work yesterday so I scanned the poster just now and went into my history followed by Edit, but the fields are all greyed out and it won't let me adjust anything. Latest version on iOS.

Looks like QR scans aren't editable. Just the notes and manually entered ones.

When forgotten or in a hurry, I've used the Manual Entry option, and edited date and time etc.

I ended up adding it manually. But still, if there's an Edit feature then you'd expect to be able to edit. I suspect that someone went 'if you scanned it then it'll be right 100% of the time' and didn't think of any edge cases.

Edit: Another trick is to change the phone's clock before scanning. This let me rescan with the correct date while retaining the location details that came from scanning the code.

Perhaps another way to do it is to retain history of edits somehow. I think they are worried about people covering their tracks--e.g. changing date to avoid detection. However I suspect it's probably not worth the effort. Easier to just add in a manual entry.

Just upgraded my phone to iOS 14 and noticed the Exposure settings were turned off, went to re-enable and it advised the Ministry of Health have their own app and I should use that instead (in short I can't turn it back on)

@BarTender may be interested to know that with iOS 14 out today, you still cannot reactivate exposure notifications.

EDIT: Snap @DJshadow, posting at the same time.

I'm still on 13.7 and mine are in limbo where they're 'inactive' due to not being turned on, but I can't turn them on because it thinks they're already on. I haven't tried turning them off and on again.

Correct. The Exposure settings work in tandem with the MoH app - when the app and infrastructure is updated/enabled. No reason to turn it on before that point. All the talk in the media was just... talk.

Just noticed after todays iOS 14 install that there is a QR Code Reader within Settings > Control Centre. I placed this into the Control Centre. Thinking now I can QR code scan directly from my phones locked screen. NOPE. All I get is "no usable data found". But the same QR code scan works from within the actual NZ COVID Tracer app. Therefore there is NO linkage between Apples QR Code Reader and the NZ COVID Tracer app. ☹️

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

As to my previous post, I sent Feedback.

Please make sure you are scanning NZ COVID Tracer posters with the NZ COVID Tracer app only.

My Reply #2

Thanks for your reply.

Yes I am scanning the NZ COVID Tracer posters, in this case Countdown Greerton, Tauranga.

I was under the impression that the Apple iOS14 Control Centre - QR Code Reader (setting for which is found in Settings > Control Centre) would automatically activate the  NZ COVID Tracer and scan OR automatically scan the QR code into the  NZ COVID Tracer in the background.

So therefore what you are saying is that the  NZ COVID Tracer app is NOT linking into the Apple iOS14 Control Centre - QR Code Reader.

Therefore we still have to unlock our iPhone > open the NZ COVID Tracer app > scan QR code.

It would be nice for the two to be linked thereby you can scan from Locked.

Their Reply #2:

Kia ora,

Yes that is correct.

Thanks very much for your feedback. We appreciate it. We have passed this feedback onto the development team.

Yeah I would say they have to update the covid app for 14 for the baked in tracing to work again.
