shouldnt be driving there in the first place, its non essential.

I suspect next week is going to a bit of a free-for-all for the first few days. It will be interesting to see where case numbers are at two weeks later, given that the lockdown apparently took two weeks to take effect.

And that is why Level 3 will continue past 11 May.

And that is why Level 3 will continue past 11 May.

To be clear it a reassessment date, there was no commitment that it's L3 date... its a next time we'll think about it is May 11.

I'd also suggest if they say L2.. it will be another 1-2 weeks much like the exit from L4 so business can think about getting sorted for L2 operations..

Geektastic: Firstly, NZ is unusual in that we tend to have a large period when many are on holiday at Christmas. Most western nations stopped doing that decades ago and leave is much more spread over the year.

It's not the Christmas holidays, it's the Summer holidays. Try getting accomodation, travel, anything in Europe in July or August...

Not really surprising (nor new) re sunlight. It was being strongly promoted in 1918.

And it's not really "solar light", it's UV, which is widely used for medical sterilisation. Google "UV light" or similar and you'll find an endless supply of lethal flesh-burning UVC lamps being offered from China.

I'm genuinely surprised we haven't heard horror stories around misuse of those yet, given how dangerous they are if you don't know exactly how to use them.

I've often heard it said, "Sunlight is a great disinfectant." Though now I think about it, the term may have been used in a different context. :)

On warm sunny days when I worked at a kids hospital in Sydney on the baby ward, we used to line the babies all up on bunny rugs outside on the ward patio (iv poles and all) with just a singlet on, NO nappies. Sunlight is the best thing to prevent and cure nappy rashs and fungal infections to the genital areas. My next door neighbours have 2 toddlers and they are always running around starker's, (don't look Ethel) I wonder if that's the parents rational?

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

UV destroys the fabric. Look up info on sterilisation, UV isn't recommended for that reason.

Disposable face masks are a pain, pretty much every means of (trying to) make them reusable also makes them ineffective. That's why they're disposable...

So while it might be useful for disinfecting hard surfaces etc it won't be useful on an actual patient. Killing a virus is actually fairly easy, it is doing while keping the host alive that it tricky.

For thkis virus its about drying it. Sun will do that, so will shade and wind
