I haven't read the thread, so apologies if already discussed.

Under level 4 I know we're allowed to go outside and walk around the block or neighborhood for exercise, so long as we stay well away from everyone else and don't go anywhere like a playground and touch things.

Are we allowed to go natural places like Wilton Bush in Wellington, which is basically bush with tracks? The main track is wide enough that if someone else is coming the other way you can stay well away from them. There are many similar places around Wellington, including one a few minutes from where we live.

"Stay home" is good advice, but with a toddler going crazy an occasional trip out would help everyone's sanity. We've never purchased outside equipment like slides and such as we always go to parks, so we don't have much for our toddler to do outside. However, I want to ensure we obey both the letter and the spirit of the isolation policy.

From the comforts of my lounge I could see people walking the Wellington Skyline Track this morning. One has got to do something to get out in the sunshine, perhaps OK when you not mingle with people you are not self-isolating with?

Otari-Wilton is not isolated enough. There's a reception, there's the chance of getting across someone. I wouldn't. Walk around the block.

I just took the dog for a walk around the block (lucky to have a park with a small bush walk within a few hundred metres)...amazed that others that were walking were not trying to distance themselves from me. One numpty came up to pat my dog and chat!

I just said, sorry I have a bit of a cough and am trying to keep my distance...then forced a half-hearted cough so he'd get the point.

Don't let your dog loose with other dogs and don't let people pat your dog - the virus could be on their fur after contacting other dogs or being patted.

We would only do the large outer track, that little building will be closed and we don't go there anyway.

The Herald has reported that the Police Commissioner Mike Bush said "You only go out in your vehicle if you need to go and get essential food supplies, essential medical supplies or medical treatment. Otherwise, please stay at home,".

"Ardern said today she understands the need for fresh air but has urged people to "stay home" as much as possible. Stay in your local area."

My interpretation is if there's a short walk to a natural space you can go there, but playgrounds are out, and driving anywhere not essential to survival is out.

Four weeks at home with a toddler... it will just fly by!

Genuine question: if you drive a 30km loop in your car for a change of scene, don’t get out or stop, how is that bad?

I guess they're going for a simple message. Make it complicated or leave any room for doubt and people will ignore it. Many people will ignore it anyway, I expect them to end up in jail or quarantine.

Yeah, I can see people going on visits to friends/rellies, with the story that it's just a 30km loop ready for the cops. This way, you can't drive further than the nearest supermarket/chemist/doctor/petrol station.

If you visit "friends/relatives" and they in turn visit their own group of "friends/relatives" then it's not working.
