Pixel 4a supports bluetooth covid notifications. It took a couple of minutes of it messing about to get working. There's also a covid menu in the phone where it can be enabled / disabled.

I have a notification from NZ Covid Tracer saying "checking exposure keys" with a moving bar. I wonder if it's going to keep doing that, chewing up battery, or if it's just getting itself sorted. I have that app set to not use battery in the background, but I guess I'll have to whitelist it if I want this to work - which I'm not sure is worth the bother in level 1.

The framework is built into the system, it's not part of the app - you don't need it running in the background for this.

Please enable the Bluetooth contact tracing.

Likewise in my Samsung - solved by using the search function in Settings which brought it up and from there I was able to track it down to the Notifications area of Settings. Doh!

Oh, I found it under the *other* google settings - the one inside the systemwide settings app. I never knew there were 2.

Make sure you activate/deactivate this from inside the COVID Tracer App. Do not touch the settings.

Woohoo, all up and running for me on iOS 14. I did a "manual" update via the App Store rather than waiting for it to update itself over the next few days.

Ok turned it back on, the annoying notification is back. Does it disappear or does it stay around?

Open the app - does it show green? If it does, just clear the notification.

Xiaomi MiMix3 running Android10

It's taken a while (45 minutes), but the app has decided my phone is compatible after all.

I got the update on my Oppo A5 2020. The app spent a few minutes deciding if my phone was compatible and then said it was and prompted me to turn on bluetooth tracking, which I've done.

Took mine (Samsung S9+) about 15 mins to figure out if it was compatible.  BT tracing now enabled.

On Morning Report just before they said that the update might roll out slowly over the course of the day. I don't think mine has updated yet.

I heard that too, paraphrased - 'a mid morning go-live for automatic updating and manual updating not available till tomorrow to mitigate load of everyone updating at once'.  To my surprise the update was waiting in the Play Store to manually update at ~8:30am for my Nokia 6.1/Android 10.

Also heard Corin Dann say he got impatient, uninstalled his app and reinstalled it but no success.  Would that mean it trashed his digital diary as well?

Has anyone figured out how/if the diary can be backed up?  My mother's phone is not holding charge and is about to get a relatively young hang-me-down so easily migrating her diary would be good.

The update is distribute by Google Play and iOS App Store. I think there will be no problem with "load"

Yes, this person just blew it.

No, it doesn't backup diary.

Surely, it backed up like any other piece of data as part of your regular backup?

There was some debate a thousand pages ago in this thread about changing phones as the diary isn't backed up by either the NZ COVID Tracer app or standard backup apps.

The notification is "sticky" - swiping it away doesn't seem to work on Pixel 4a. It has a continuous progress bar there which makes me wonder if it's going to chew up battery. Battery usage in settings says it's fine.
