Got the update this morning on my Huawei P20 Pro, took a while for the app to accept my phone could do the tracking though.
Ge0rge: Galaxy S10+, installed the app update this morning.
Just ticked over an hour of "Checking exposure keys". BT is switched on.
App dashboard says "Activating Bluetooth tracing..." click on that and it tells me "We can't currently activate Bluetooth tracing for you"
Latest Android security updates installed. I'll leave it running, but it's not exactly encouraging.
I also restarted my phone. It didnt solve the problem instantly but it did come right afterwards.
Not sure if that helped the process, but it's worth a crack.

Mine hasn't updated yet but I'm guessing it will when my phone connects to my wifi. I'll check it again tonight.
Keep calm, and carry on posting.

Just manually installed the COVID Tracer app update on Himself's phone (Blackview BV9600Pro).
Everything worked straight off out of the box, so to speak.

On backups I could be wrong, but I feel reasonably certain when I changed phones recently my diary came across as part of restoring my new phone, from the backup of the old phone.

Assuming you were changing Android phones was that using Google's phone migration tool or was it a third party app?

Raises a good point, does any type of data (WiFi or mobile data) need to be enabled to send/receive Bluetooth tokens? Reason I ask is the only thing I've used my phone's Bluetooth for is file transfer to a desktop and briefly playing with casting to a Bluetooth amp - both appeared to only work when wifi was on.
And yes, Bluetooth is on with the app giving the green 'Bluetooth tracing is on' message.
Based on what Chris Hipkins has said my understanding is that the app doesn't require an internet connection for normal day-to-day use of the bluetooth tracking, but it requires an occasional connection to the internet to download the keys of infected people in order to assess whether it has exchanged any of those keys.
Fully patched Nokia 7.2
- We can't currently active Bluetooth Tracing for you
After about 5 mins I got a notification saying BT Tracing is available and then I could turn it on
