Open the app - does it show green? If it does, just clear the notification.

The notification is "sticky" - swiping it away doesn't seem to work on Pixel 4a. It has a continuous progress bar there which makes me wonder if it's going to chew up battery. Battery usage in settings says it's fine.

has it told you its been activated or still showing the bar? you have to wait with the bar, and when its done you will get a notification you are good to go, then it can be swiped away.

does the app show your phone is good to go?

I gave up waiting after an hour and a half. Restarted phone, and the covid app. Took a further minute or two, and then finally worked.

Do you know if it is possible to use the bluetooth function without location turned on?

Should be for the purposes of this app - I can't recall seeing a anywhere that records location.  Just other bluetooth interractions and also any QR scans.

Looking at the permissions for the app, it doesn't ask for location at all.

A restart seems to have sorted it out. Notification gone, seems activated. All good now thanks :)

When I turn off location, Exposure Notifications pops up saying it is inactive and I need location on to use it.

Hmm I see that too after a quick test. It must be a prequesite for the Google API.

FYI, the help text on my device (in the Exposure Notifications setting) says:

"The device location setting needs to be on for Bluetooth to detect nearby devices that have Exposure Notifications on".

it also says "The Exposure Notifications System doesn't use, save or share your device location".

I've enabled it on my phone, was pretty easy. Haven't poked around but given the codes are anonymous it would be cool to see some data, how many people you've been around per hour/day for example. Would be quite interesting to see if people were contagious how many people you could infect or be infected by. MoH could even use it as an education thing, if you were infected on this date you could have passed it on to x number of unknown people.

freitasm:

We need to continue to scan QR codes wherever we go, and businesses, services and public transport providers must keep displaying their QR Code posters at all alert levels.

On Auckland Transport, if one tags on with a registered "Hop" card, what is the benefit of scanning QR codes? We can be traced using the Hop card info.

If there is a benefit, the case for it should be made, if only briefly, on the posters exhorting us to scan. On the buses I catch mask wearing has improved to be the norm, better last week than when it was first made compulsory. However, I don't often see anyone scanning the QR codes.

The MoH app can notify you instantly if a case is caught and you scanned a location that person's been to.

Hop and Snapper would be contact by tracers, search their databases and then tracers would have to manually call or visit people to let them know.

More than reason enough.

No one I know is using it anymore. Usage seems to be dropping faster than rain.

freitasm: People are dumb.

And/or lazy.

I have treated it like putting a seatbelt on when you get into a car. After a while it just becomes a habit.

I saw no-one else (Apart from me) scan or sanitise at the 2 places I went to this morning.

Never before have I seen no-one else do either! Sad!
