This is iOS presumably, anyone have similar joy with Android?

The jist I get. It's the difference between keeping itself privacy assured - local stored data. Vs automatic cloud backup.

IOS handles this better. Android doesn't

That said, seems if you use a 3rd party app+data backup and restore tool. It may find the associated local data and do it. While an online swap, will only get the apps fresh from store from the 'whats installed' list and any associated cloud data. But not the local stuff

Had same problem with a few burger joint loyalty apps (1 short of the freebe!!!) where a ph reset/swap didn't bring the rewards with it. Bit of a fail. But I can see their point with this iteration.

An opt-in cloud backup extra would be preferred.

Thanks but sorry to hear you lost your free burger.  I feel your pain.

It must be a major headache given all the talk about the app data privacy being super secure so people felt comfortable using it.  An opt-in cloud backup would be good but you can see some shaking of fists at the sky asking why their private data is being uploaded to iCloud or Google Drive.

I use the Super Backup app which I have on my Mum's phone too so hopefully it'll pick up the app data when restored on her replacement Christmas phone.

Both this and the previous MoH updates wiped my Diary history .... I just started again.

I note that this latest update (Bluetooth) sometimes causes the phone to freeze on the QR Code/camera screen, and neither the Back or Home buttons work.

I see the FAQ at https://www.health.govt.nz/our-work/diseases-and-conditions/covid-19-novel-coronavirus/covid-19-resources-and-tools/nz-covid-tracer-app/questions-and-answers-nz-covid-tracer has been updated to explain why I needed to turn on Location (i.e. GPS) on my older android phone in order for the bluetooth tracking to work.

Good to hear. Those who noticed and took to online only stirred up the tinfoilers that there was something else going on.

Fun fact, when you put your phone into flight mode Bluetooth tracking doesn't work either πŸ˜‰.  I just did this so I didn't flinch having a dentist checkup and had an immediate silent notification to say "Exposure Notifications inactive".  At least I know flight mode severs all wireless connection to the outside world.

But you can turn on individual connections - you can turn flight mode on to disable mobile connections and then manually turn on Bluetooth and/or WiFi. That's what you do when you are on an aeroplane and want to use WiFi or Bluetooth headphones.

It seems intuitive but a lot of people don't know this.

Initially, yes. But you can manually enable BT after flightmode. It's not considered bad juju. Is how you can still listen to BT headphones on planes

/edit snap. Should read and then switch to new tabs faster it seems

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

There may be a bug in the latest version of the app as I have a constant notification "Checking Exposure Keys". It has a continuously moving progress bar and it reappears after a reinstall of the app. Also the first day I used Bluetooth it drained my phone on a day I had no use on it. I promptly disabled the feature until I hear if it is an issue.

I'm using a Galaxy S20

Regards, John.

KiwiSurfer:

I was surprised a few weeks back when I saw the MOH had announced that a supermarket I went to had a positive case related to it on the day I visited. As I did scan into that supermarket I wondered why MOH had not followed up with me. I suspect they only followed up with people who were there during a very specific timeframe.

Alternatively, the whole thing works so badly that they're not able to contact most of the people who were there.

That's not snark, having seen the rest of the app it wouldn't surprise me if the back-end was just as awful.

What does the "checking exposure keys" message mean?  My Galaxy S7 was doing this for nearly 2 hours last night, until I turned the phone off at bedtime -- no sign of it this morning.

AFAICT it's the app checking whether you've been in a location where there's exposure. Given the multi-hour runtimes I've been seeing, it's par for the course for the app - I've got "checking exposure keys" semi-permanently glued to my home screen as it runs down the battery in the background.

The keys, per Googles implementation of it... changes every ~hour for the broadcaster. And does a server exposed keys check at least once a day.

But it seems mostly samsungs that are displaying this. And either toggling the system built in control and letting the app re-enable it may work. (or vice versa) Or force updating the Playstore framework. It's still not clear which is the cause. It's as if one is trying to toggle it on, while it already was. As it's the sort of message that appears as you set it up within the app and it does the various probes

Checking internet

Checking device compatability

And so on.

Could even be Samsungs OS optimising being cautious, like Huawei and their battery extending delaying notifications for up to an hr even when offline or killing background tasks as it pleases

I've seen it once on my Xiaomi phone. Just caught a glimps of it when unlocking it.

Not seeing any of the above behaviours on my Samsung A50. App just sits there, BT enabled with no impact on my use of the phone or notifications coming up.

Same issue here with the "Checking Exposure Keys" notification since the last update. Never had this notification before. I'm pretty sure it's not a Samsung thing as I'm running some Android apps within an Android App support function within Sailfish OS. Also the app seems to be quite laggy since the update.
