We’ve just had a very close family member hospitalised due to mental health.

Without going into all the details she is an extremely high achiever running businesses in an essential area.

If you are struggling please reach out and get support. Seeing this happen is really challenging.

I am so sorry for you. I hope your family member makes a full recovery soon.

Personally, I have been doing okay but may have a crisis soon. We seem to be completely cut off. In spite of what the PM and others say, no supermarket in Hastings will deliver. I was able to register with Countdown but all delivery slots are full forever (according to their site). I can't even get into New World. The registration page just keeps looping back on itself. I can see the Click and Collect slots, though, and they are also all taken until the end of time. This fills me with a sense of great insecurity. The person helping me is willing to take deliveries and bring them out to me, but she is not willing to go into town or to the shops and I don't blame her. It is starting to feel very lonely. I guess my question is where is that support I am supposed to reach out to? I am not depressed but feeling completely cut off does seriously stress me.

That does sound stressful.

Did you contact the store via phone? If you have tried that, and it's fallen over, then I can see what I can do to put you in touch with someone who can potentially help.

I would really recommended calling or texting the MentalHealth.org at 1737 to speak with a trained mental health counselor – it’s free and confidential. They should be to get you some help with your isolation.

Thanks very much for the suggestions. I am not suicidal, just very frustrated that Jacinda Ardern (whom I greatly admire) keeps saying our salvation lies with the supermarkets when I can't even get the bloody supermarkets to deliver anything. How am I supposed to get food if I can't go anywhere and their services are all frozen? I see on TV1 news tonight that I am not alone in this. The supermarkets cannot cope with the demand. There needs to be something else, quickly. Muslims can't get meat and I can't get anything. Something is wrong with this picture.

Having been involved in the Lion's Club, I can attest they are very active. The Lions motto is "We Serve." Frankly most members are well aged, so any club will have local expertise.

@rikkitic there was a story on one news tonight about Friends in Need who are helping put people in touch with volunteers who can deliver food etc. Not sure if you have contacted them, but may be worth a try too. They started in Auckland but are going nationwide.

The lockdown happened in such a fast manner, that no-one could really get adequately prepared. This includes all the essential businesses who are under big pressure now. An extra 2 days would have given more time for a more well thought out way to handle the relatively fringe cases. I understand the argument for Level 4 so quickly, but there are consequences. 2-3 days of 3.5 would have allowed for less unintended consequences.

From what I have heard, the amount of food waste is appalling. I feared this would happen in a previous post here. Apparently in Auckland , Supermarkets only provide around 40% of fruit and veges, and the majority is supplied by independent vege shops. I would have thought it was common sense to redistribute this to supermarkets. Hopefully it doesn't result in shortages and price rises on fruit and veges.
