It seems I missed this reference in yesterday's NZHerald...

'There's also a difference between booster doses and third primary doses'.

The article doesn't really clear anything up at all to me:

"The booster is different to the third primary dose recommended for people who are immunocompromised.

People eligible for a third primary dose can access a booster dose six months after receiving their third primary dose."

So if I'm eligible for a third primary dose, I can get a booster, but a booster is different to a third primary dose? Keh?

Their second sentence makes no sense at all - how many doses?

The official booster. Is to be a different makeup.

So the naming was changed everywhere to 3rd primary. As that's all we got currently.

But the plan is for sometime around feb on for the refined version

Ok thanks I'm going to blame the heat for my lack of reading comprehension today.

If it's coming in around Feb, what are those who have already had a third shot been given then? I assumed third primary? Is that what the article means by booster six months after third primary - you can get the booster six months after third, being your fourth shot?

Frequently Asked Questions Do booster shots use the same ingredients as existing vaccines?

Yes. COVID-19 booster shots are the same ingredients (formulation) as the current COVID-19 vaccines. However, in the case of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine booster shot, the dose is half of the amount of the vaccine people get for their primary series.

Updated Dec. 28, 2021

Edit: So my Pfizer 3rd dose given in December is effectively an early Booster.

The first, second, third and booster Pfizer vaccines are exactly the same dose of exactly the same ingredients.

A "third primary" dose is a top-up available only to some people with specific medical conditions, and is effectively a "prescription medicine".

A "booster" is a top-up available to anybody who had their second dose more than four months ago.
AIUI, a person who had a "third primary" dose would be eligible for a "booster" four (maybe six?) months after their "third primary", however I would strongly recommend that anyone in that situation keep in close contact with their doctor as the doc can give them actual medical advice instead of some random Internet AIUIs ;)
