Senecio:

I turned off the Bluetooth exposure notification on my phone as soon as the QR codes were removed from entrances and contract tracing was ended.

Except it didn't really. It's still on the individual to just not someone at the end of the phone to extract it out.

And places weren't forced to be removed, just just chose to for some reason thinking it went hand in hand with the wrong messaging behind change in requiring to get people to use them. (So the PM reminded everyone not to uninstall/touch it and some people still do).

You are still asked for your close/high risk contacts and upload keys if present https://covid19.govt.nz/testing-and-tracing/contact-tracing/how-contact-tracing-works/

My device has been polled for key matches 4x today already. And 441 so far uploaded theirs today with 1791 alerts going out.

@oblivian

578 BT codes uploaded from 6000 community cases today. So basically a 10% upload of codes from notified positive cases appears to now be the norm (as it was a month or so ago)

Yep. Goes to show how taking the messaging from the outset on the actual planned changes leads to people taking the wrong thing from a short headline tag

Most only realise the code uploads is still one of the first things when they actually report it or find the above page. It's always been there however. Then there's the reporting shambles itself.

However unlike the organisms itself, it didn't just stop one day. Everyones self ignored it or made the decision themseslves to stop using the tools at our disposal
So the stats outside the 2mil who didn't uninstall only really have ourselves to blame.

What is the criteria for distance between two devices that would cause an alert? Is it within 5m for more than 5 minutes or something?

Well then, I am genuinely puzzled as it says my exposure was Sunday and I wasn't anywhere near anyone that doesn't live with me for that period.

I was in a shop for 15 minutes, but nowhere near 2m near someone else for 15 minutes. I spoke to the shop keeper for around 3-4 minutes then she went behind the counter.

I also picked up some food at a cafe, but I was mostly outside except for 5 minutes *maybe* where I was sitting at a table well more than 2m from anyone else.

How strange. Doesn't really change anything for me, I am always monitoring for symptoms and testing if I have any, but I also like to understand things.

Wash your hands folks. My wife reports that the Gastro bug is really nasty and spreads easily and is everywhere.

Not Covid related, but GZ health related :)

Since COVID I've been carrying around small bottles of hand sanitiser in my bum bag and car. I always use it. I have a bulk refill bottle at home.

Being a retired nurse I know the hazards of fomites and "Ahem" dirty people.

Note the BT does not work off 'xMeters'. Per the guide, it is off signal strength attenuation. Which /can/ indicate proximity.

As referred - Pg 79.

Or get a Hygiene Hand or similar and minimise exposure at the source. Just make sure it's a proper brass (= high copper content) one and not the endless fakes from China.

Isn't pushing doors open what elbows were invented for? And for pulling doors, putting a bit of t-shirt over your finger first?

I have been now taking a chemo/immunosuppressant drug to treat some conditions. I have been doing blood test every month because the drug can affect liver functions and had a liver ultrasound today because the GP wasn't happy with the last blood test results.

So yes, I am not keen on catching covid - mask up all the time, WFH to avoid getting on public transport, and avoiding proximity to anyone and everyone except close family.

We were very lucky my wife caught it early April and out isolation protocol worked well - living in the same house, separate bedrooms, bathrooms. Air purifiers running at 100% all the time everywhere and deck doors open so I could go outside if my wife ever needed to come to this side of the house - the good weather back then helped a bit.
