neb: Or get a Hygiene Hand or similar and minimise exposure at the source. Just make sure it's a proper brass (= high copper content) one and not the endless fakes from China.

Gurezaemon: Isn't pushing doors open what elbows were invented for? And for pulling doors, putting a bit of t-shirt over your finger first?

I know of people who use the edge of their shoes to lift or put down toilet sets. Personally I prefer urinals and avoid sit downs where possible but if I have to, I wetly sanitise wipe down the seat before use. I also sanitise wetly my hands before going into public toilets, like I do with shopping trolleys. By doing these things wetly you leave a layer on the surface which is good for a least the next sanitary or unsanitary person.

AND of course stay away from hand blower dryers they literally just blow the sh*t around. Use paper towels. If you are lucky the facility might have hand sanitiser gel dispensers, use that. If all else fails, post washing, after using provided soap for 20 seconds, lightly shake your hands into the sink and use your own clean hanky. If no hanky wait till you exit facility and shake hands around, inconspicuously. 😀

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

... use the front of your shirt/trousers. At worst they'll be slightly damp for a few minutes until body heat dries them out naturally.

A point about toilet seats, there was a study released a few years ago with the rather dramatic-sounding accompanying PR that a computer keyboard has more germs on it than a toilet seat. Which is true because a toilet seat gets cleaned once a day with antibacterial cleaner and apart from, um, accidental spray only ever comes into countact with a body part that's typically also recently washed and enclosed in cloth the rest of the time, while a keyboard gets cleaned approximately never and comes into contact with hands that have food particles and other nutrients on them and have been uncovered and touching things all day.

I would challenge that study❗️

a - antibacterial cleaner would only last till the first bum sat down, maybe two bums.

b - flushing toilets create an atomised aerosol spray and by the very design of the bowel it will eject upwards. It will coat all nearby surfaces. It has been proven to even be sucked up into the areas ventilation system. This is how back in the 1997 the Hong Kong avian flu outbreak spread within apartment buildings, level to level.

c - computer keyboards, phones, atm pin pads etc are notorious fomites (back in the mid eighties in Sydney, I worked in a small security company control room, we were going through 1-2 cans of Glen20 a week on computer keyboards and phones. Mind you how the germs survived the layer of nicotine on all the surfaces is beyond me.)

Only if you're Donald Trump, for everyone else it ejects downwards.

There's actually been a bunch of them reported in various media, e.g. Forbes and The Independent, some more rigorous than others. The Forbes article has more references to original material, and some are to actual university studies rather than just some random web site.

i don't think it was avian flu, iirc it was the original SARS 1.0

and i don't think it was the ventilation system, iirc it was thought the fecal plumes travelled up and down via the sewage pipes (sorry can't remember where the plumes had thought to have exited)

though my memory does fail me from time to time, more often that not!

or it could have been both viruses and we'd both be right!

Even though the Forbes article links to some sources, it is actually written by a "contributor". Those are blogs, not by Forbes journalist staff. Also the article links to a couple of university articles, then links to a few tabloid articles.

I wouldn't use Forbes articles as sources.

Monday 23 May it was decreed that we would stop working from home and, unless you had a formal arrangement in place, it was back to the office full time. For me that includes approximately 2 hours each way on the Wairarapa "Express".

I have conscientiously worn a suitable mask from when I leave home to when I arrive back, even at my desk. But today I woke up and knew what was coming - and I was right, it took about 30 seconds for the line to appear on the RAT.

Now feeling very fatigued and a throat full of razor blades. All my co-workers are still negative so my best guess would be the commute.

Been happy with the reporting and support process - pretty seamless.  Boss has told me to take proper sick leave. Don't log in and the world is not going to stop spinning if I don't check my emails. Good management :)

I took a rapid antigen test on Monday evening as a precaution because one of my colleagues had tested positive a couple of days after I had some interaction with him. Fortunately I had no symptoms and the result came back negative so I decided I would go to bed and deal with logging the result the next day.

The following day I logged into My Covid Record and, upon attempting to log a test result, I was informed that results have to be logged the same day that the test is taken. I wonder how many test results are being missed because people incorrectly assumed that they didn't need to log it straight away?

I don't see any point in logging a negative test.

I thought MOH guidance was that all test results should be logged, but I might be wrong. I'm losing track.

That's probably correct. It's a daft requirement. What does it achieve?

I test very time I go to and come home from work. I don't see the point of logging negative tests. Logging those doesn't achieve anything IMO.

I suspect they ideally want to be able to measure the positivity ratio, but you're right, it's a waste of time due to the sporadic nature of people reporting negative results.

That's why I haven't logged any of my many many negative tests.

Can't blame the people when the system is so bad about it.
