chatterbox: How many of the 9 out of 10 mask wearers are wearing cloth masks or I’ll fitting surgical masks? That would probably reduce the number of effective mask wearers.

In the last month I've seen exactly two people wearing the surgical masks correctly. In Europe, where KN95s (as FFP2s) are mandatory, those are the strap-on shopping bags that cover nose and mouth, I've seen plenty of people wear them as chin-warmers. It must be pretty uncomfortable wearing them that way with the bottom half cutting into your throat, but they still manage it.

No masks at my work, and everyone is happy about it. Most have had Covid. And I’m guessing the few of us that haven’t are immune or got it without knowing.

Just back from a weekend house hunting and buying visit to the south island. Masks as rare as Bengal Tigers down there it seems!

The only place is still see universal mask wearing is the supermarkets and transport (planes, taxis etc).

I've made masks 'recommended' in our work policy but left it as personal choice.  Only one person, who has always bee has chosen to keep wearing them.  I wear mine when I go near that person and in the corridors and kitchen.

I still haven't had COVID.  I've been unmasked, in close proximity to people who tested +ive the next day several times.  In each case for an extended period.

And yet, having had covid doesn't mean one won't have it again.

You don't have to go to far south. I work in Wiri and went to the Westfield mall in Manakau for lunch earlier in the week. Would have been lucky to be 50% compliance rate for mask wearing. A stark contrast to the Lyn Mall close to home in the West where compliance in the shopping centre is greater than 95%.

I've a couple of employees who have purportedly had it twice within a few weeks.

One has a company vehicle that went to ChCh and back while they was supposedly at home isolating with his second bout of COVID 🙄.  I'll be interested to hear their explanation for that.

As heaps of people have pointed out, cloth and surgical masks would appear to be pretty useless. Either mandate N95 masks, or make mask wearing entirely optional.

News and information - COVID-19 affects Council’s waste collection services - Wellington City Council

Unfortunately, 50 percent of the Council’s waste contractors are impacted by COVID-19 or other seasonal ailments, so there are currently significant delays in kerbside collections.

Glass collections will be put on hold from Monday 27 June for an estimated two weeks.

Not our experience I have to say. Was expecting our 10 days on the West Coast would be the "Wild West" and we would be the only ones wearing masks, but that was not the case. Every shop we went into had very high compliance and given we were camper-vanning, it was usually us going - "oops need a mask".

Having got back, I now have a bad cold that I kept thinking was going to be Covid, but keep testing negative. Nevertheless, at home hunkering down.

It does seem pretty random to me. If I had to guess, typically those who have already had it, aren't worried about masks any longer, and those who haven't are probably being a bit more vigilant.

If you see someone at a business taking all appropriate precautions and doing the right thing, thank them for it. People like them will be getting a lot of cr*p over this, so having some positive feedback over it will (hopefully) make up for some of that.

Out of the three customers that were at the local petrol station this morning there was zero compliance and the staff didn't enforce it. Even everytime I go to Hamilton there seems to less and less mask use.

I was listening to one of the many COVID advisory ads they have on the radio the other day, and it said that immunity you get from a booster is better than any immunity you get from actually having had COVID.

How can that possibly be the case?
