We’ve just had a very close family member hospitalised due to mental health.

Without going into all the details she is an extremely high achiever running businesses in an essential area.

If you are struggling please reach out and get support. Seeing this happen is really challenging.

I am so sorry for you. I hope your family member makes a full recovery soon.

Personally, I have been doing okay but may have a crisis soon. We seem to be completely cut off. In spite of what the PM and others say, no supermarket in Hastings will deliver. I was able to register with Countdown but all delivery slots are full forever (according to their site). I can't even get into New World. The registration page just keeps looping back on itself. I can see the Click and Collect slots, though, and they are also all taken until the end of time. This fills me with a sense of great insecurity. The person helping me is willing to take deliveries and bring them out to me, but she is not willing to go into town or to the shops and I don't blame her. It is starting to feel very lonely. I guess my question is where is that support I am supposed to reach out to? I am not depressed but feeling completely cut off does seriously stress me.

You're not cut off. You have all of us. We can mail you stuff if it comes to it.

If anyone around west Auckland has themselves or a friend or family member stranded or needing food delivery, I can adopt them for a few weeks. :)

MikeAqua:

I have a different issue to most people I know.  Too much to do.  Quite a lot of pressure.

Redesigning operations to fit with a 2m separation (and accepting a 60% decrease in productivity that went with it), then redesigning everything again when govt position flip-flopped back to 1m.  Sourcing PPE, and disinfectant cleaners.

A bit of an eye opener on the preparedness front.  Most surface cleaners aren't antiviral (should have known that).  In essential industry there is no govt support for workers a company can't provide work for.

We have had to reduce employee numbers to make space and either we keep paying those people we don't need or lay them off so they can get welfare.

Despite exhaustion, stress is making sleep difficult.

I'm normally very resilient, cope with stress well, compartmentalise.  This is different.  If think it's because home is now my workplace.

It looks like some normality will emerge this week, so hopefully things will get better.

Vent over.

Hi @MikeAqua

I missed your post earlier for some reason.  I don't know your industry, but if you are expecting a 30% downturn then I believe you qualify for the wage subsidy.  The subsidy can be spread...  for example my daughter works part time doing after-school childcare, and earns less than the 'part time worker' subsidy.  Under the guidelines (and I can find evidence of this if asked), my little one should be paid what she is normally paid and the difference can be used to top up others.  I've also heard of companies making staff un-redundant after confirming they can access the subsidy.

I hope this week is settling down for you.  If sleep is still elusive, I believe Melatonin can be purchased over the counter from a pharmacy after a quick consult with the pharmacist (not just straight off the shelf).  It helped me get back into a better sleep pattern a while back.

Cheers
Mike

Update : I have managed to establish a small network of locals to deliver groceries to my folks, and pick up medicines.

The supermarkets are hopeless.

I don't think they are meaning to be, they are just trying to do their best under the circumstances, and behind the scenes, there are things happening, but they aren't quite ready yet. I expect things to improve.

I hope so. I do realise these are extraordinary times, but if the authorities insist that only supermarkets can provide food and old people cannot visit them, then the delivery services have to be up to the task!

I agree it's a huge gap they missed.

I looked at Countdown today and unless you’re on the special list it’s essentially no deliveries at all available.

I have two mental health requests that I would greatly appreciate having passed on to the appropriate authorities:

1. Someone tell the PM that the supermarkets aren't working and there need to be other ways for people to get food.

2. Please tell relevant authorities and relevant everyone else that not everyone in the world is on Facebook or Twitter and it really grates when those are the only means of communication offered to provide feedback or ask questions. Many old people in particular have email but nothing else. At the very least, also provide email links so we don't have to keep feeling ignored, unimportant, out of touch, irrelevant, on the scrap heap, whatever.

How in the hell do I get on the 'special' list? I am over 70 and have COPD. Do I need to be dead first?

I'll find out for you.

I think this is it. Not sure if you have already registered here:

https://shop.countdown.co.nz/shop/content/priority-assistance

There is a phone number 0800 477 655 if you get stuck registering, but it's quite busy, so prepare for a bit of a hold.

@Rikkitic  have you looked at this. I was added to it but have not used it. It took a couple of days to get approved.

You have to register on this form https://shop.countdown.co.nz/shop/content/priority-assistance?_ga=2.164437567.1434006302.1585696007-885930746.1585696007

It doesn't look like Paknsave, which is usually cheaper, has anyway for them to deliver goods. It seems to be the more expensive stores.

I think dead is a better way to be taken off the list.

I find it incredible that they haven't closed online ordering/delivery to anyone that isn't over 60 or with a history of underlying health concerns...
