Sounds like you are finally sleeping without pain and that must be a relief in itself. Those small between knee pillows are great in bed to take the pressure off the back when rolling.

Spoil yourself and savour the chance to relax. Best wishes for some good news soon.

freitasm:

Hi folks.

I hope you are all doing well. Another update here.

I am sitting in front of my computer for the first time since 25 January - two weeks!

Up until a couple of days ago my shoulder/neck would get tired and painful after being up for 30 minutes. This is now getting better and I can properly sit (my chair has good lumbar support) but still not for long stints. I feel tired and need to go back to bed after an hour or so.

Pain levels are minimal, only really feeling something on my back when rolling in bed from one side to another. Still have another two weeks of sick leave, and planning to use it all to get better.

Good to hear you're taking positive steps toward recovery.  Hopefully the recovery continues and you get better soon.  Take care.

Another update. Not a great one.

There is a bit of swelling around the surgery site, so contacted surgeon yesterday. He booked an emergency MRI for this morning and a consult for immediately after.

There seems to be a spinal fluid leak. The decision was made for a second surgery this Tuesday to fix it. Another five days lying in bed, then another two weeks rest at home.

No pain, just the swelling and pressure feeling on my back.

That is not good news.

Sounds like the external membrane of the spinal cord canal has a small tear. (the membrane repair has come adrift slightly)

Try not to cough or laugh or sneeze, no exertions of course. Best to stay laying down flat with only short vertical trips.

Watch out for dizziness and/or headaches and of course an increase in that bulge around the operation area.

Make sure that area is protected with a nice thick sterile dressing, like a Combine Dressing. If the area bursts to the surface get yourself off to ED immediately. You do not want infection in that area.

Good Luck 😀

EDIT: (the membrane repair has come adrift slightly)

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

he had surgery on the spinal cord so it is normal for that membrane to be trespassed to get to the target

just need to re-do the closure, maybe a drain

all the best

Dear Mauricio.

You should have listened to my dubious, non-medical advice and ordered a bowl of pasta marinara at your favorite Italian restaurant after your return! Now we have the misery! But you absolutely have to do that now after your second return, it's part of the recovery process! 😉

(I hope anyway and my recovery wishes to you).

Look after yourself MF. Hopefully this will pass fairly quickly, once they've applied the leeches etc and you'll be back to normal soon!
