My update also manual (Android).

Out at a few shops this afternoon.  To be honest did not seem any faster at reading codes than previously.

It doesn't help that some stores are doing the least possible and moved to the small half A4 sized QR

There are a few more water damaged ones to not being replaced. In an ideal world it would read as fast as some of the countdown ones do as I'm walking up to them, reality is you often get stopped and have to queue up behind people, suffering delays that you can't pinpoint on the app with a QR due inconsistencies

I'm not sure size helps. My local countdown has a huge poster-sized one with good visibility my phone consistently fails to scan but a small A5 sized one (with identical QR code) a bit further inside works wonders but still required a bit of waving around before it scans. Oddly enough I've had good success rates with faded and distorted QR codes--sometimes even better than perfectly clear ones. Very frustrating but I suspect it's more an issue with my phone so probably not much MOH can do I suppose. I just try my best and if it fails I just move on--especially if I have another record of the visit e.g. EFTPOS.

Main 'annoyance' I have is that some of the QR code posters are not in the most obvious locations. Sometimes have to search around to locate one - not helped when the poster is just a B&W photocopy.  Would also help if there were several posters at strategic locations in larger stores so if miss scanning coming in can easily do it once in the store.

One of our local pharmacies has two entrances (on same street front) but only one QR code poster (often just B&W).   And that has moved location at least 4 times.  Most recently just inside one entrance but previously further in from that entrance, and before that beside one of the 3 or 4 payment counters.

An advantage of having several copies is sometimes if the lighting is poor for one at certain times of the day, there's always another one that's probably fine. Also helps for poor QR scanners as sometimes a different copy scans better. Etc, etc. Surely not too hard to print more...?

Further updates have been rolled out across the Covid Tracer App. We should be aiming for a 'swirl status' - this is a new icon that will appear on the app.

Oh great! First I get scolded by the app to "complete my diary" because I've only scanned on 6 of the last 14 days, now it's throwing in FOMO as well? I work from home and only go out when I must.  Bad enough that it reminds me how seldom I leave my house, now it's going to rub that in even more? "Bah!" indeed. :(

Maybe get a QR code for your home? It's a place of work...

Silly, I know, but I was annoyed at the scolding over Easter.

I just do not get this!

We are in an era of computer systems that can monitor everything. Why then can they not; conceive, write and implement a system that records and tracks all this.

I have said it before and will keep saying it:

The NZ COVID Tracer should be used not just for tracking your movements but for recording your; Testing and your Vaccine status.

Tested at this location on this date and time

Vaccinated at this location on this date and time with this batch # vaccine (1st & 2nd)

Within the App is your own QR code which testing and vaccination stations scan and this ID (name and NHI) automatically goes into the national database. So the MoH has the record and you have the record. For those without a modern phone they are given a card with the QR information embedded in it.

Those who have just entered the country and are in MIQ, upon registration must download and install the app, or even prior to entry like Australia is trying to do and on arrival at the border your initial scan automatically gives you an ID number.

Border force personal, including MIQ staff, must scan their app at the start of each shift which then would indicate their testing & vaccination status.

It is a no brainer. It is now your COVID-19 passport. AND bugger the privacy.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

I'm all for gamifying the app, it might make some people use it more often. Make the app award you with badges for doing different things: streaks (eg scan in every day for a week / month / year), 10 different scans in one day, scan in at 10 different restaurants / bars / shops / etc (different badge for each business type), local and national league tables, compare your scanning with your friends, weekly and monthly competitions, etc.

So turn it into swarm then? A much better app for checking into places that they should have just paid to add covid stuff into IMO.

I think there would be two challenges with implementing classifications and comparisons against friends:
- you’d need to increase the QR payload, add a local DB of codes or implement an online look up, driving up complexity.
- comparing with friends would presumably require some server side to transmit and receive your ‘teams’ data. Granted it could be aggregated but care would be needed to ensure privacy. Any thing that shifts location information into government databases would fly against the spirit of the covid tracker (and may not pass the Apple / Google checks for covid apps).
