Jase2985:

its 7 days minimum and 24h symptom free. so if you still have symptoms you cant legally leave isolation as you put it.

The official advice is actually that you CAN leave self-isolation after 7 days; and you SHOULD stay home if symptomatic:

https://covid19.health.nz/advice/i-have-covid-19/self-isolation#when-you-can-end-your-selfisolation

The last day of your self-isolation is whichever of these came first:

  • 7 days after your symptoms started
  • 7 days after you got a positive test result.

...

If you still have symptoms, we advise you to stay at home until 24 hours after they resolve.

[My emphasis]

Staying isolated until symptom free is sadly not a legal requirement - and as an example, your 7 days isolation can end 5 days after a positive test if you were symptomatic for 2 days before finally testing positive - so you're not actually required to be in isolation for 7 days post-positive testing.

One actually wonders why they bother at all, tbh...

Off topic but what are you training for? I'm down for Old Ghost Ultra in February. Must be that or TUM in February?

Tarawera. Signed up for the 50k this year but obviously got canned. I've been thinking of upgrading to the 102 but not sure if I've left myself enough time to train. OGU...very nice. That's a bucket list run for me.

People with common sense follow the advice about public health measures, while other people only see the rule have lost sight of the reason for the advice.

They bother for the people with some sense.

My parents a revisiting a rest home tommorrow, and apparently a large number of people in the rest home have covid, but they are confined to their rooms. They also aren't confirmed to have it, just suspected, as it doesn't appear they are testing them. I remember when it was frontline news when there was just a single covid case in hospital. Many of the deaths are elderly, so I suspect it is causing quite a large churn in resthomes. But there has been no media coverage of this sort of thing that I have seen.  We just seem to have been told to accept 10-20 deaths a day, and I wouldn't be surprised if it is going to become one of the main contributors or causes of death

I saw my doc yesterday and she was quite blunt that the 7 days is really arbitrary and everyone's case is different and also that I really should take it easy for as long as I have the fatigue as it could lead to long term issues.

There really isn't enough education around this. It should be being made much clearer on public channels.

I don't know where the 7 days even came from, apart from the government directives, designed to keep the economy moving. People used to have to isolate in MIQ for 14 days, and then if they were infected, they had to go into isolation until they were better. The virus doesn't understand 7 days. People can be sick for weeks and if they don't get better, they can worsen and end up needing hospital care. However if you  are vaccinated, you can often recover faster, and therefore less likely to infect others, as you have it for a shorter duration on average.

I’ve only looked through the last 10 pages but has anyone received the antivirals or is there a post anyone recalls from further back I can jump to?

Just curious about the process like reporting your positive RAT to how long it takes to get a call for some sort of assessment and how do you get your script or medication (assuming eligibility)? And what sort of follow up do they give you?

Cloud spending continues to surge globally, but most organisations haven’t made the changes necessary to maximise the value and cost-efficiency benefits of their cloud investments. Download the whitepaper From Overspend to Advantage now.

Was mostly ok yesterday but coughing and nose is quite blocked now, and also headache and lack of energy starting to take over. Still have some taste but no smell, but not sure if I've lost smell or just too blocked up, plus I have nose issues and weak smell at the best of times anyway so expected that to go quickly. Feels like a nasty cold now.

I had it last week, most of the symptoms gone now, but can't get rid of a hacking cough.  I hear the cough can go on for weeks, and there's no way I can isolate until it goes away

Until now I have personally had no issues with official Covid health policies and procedures.

Until now.

Yesterday I rolled up to a mobile vaccination site for my second booster. Several nurses standing around looking for something to do. I was the only one there at 10:30. They seemed pleased to see me. I handed over my card.

Upon inspection, it transpired that I was precisely one (1!) day too early. One day less than six months plus two or three days margin. The nurse was very polite and apologetic but she said there was nothing she could do. She even checked with her superior.

Naturally I was disappointed and we had a discussion about it. I live at a rural location and had to drive a half-hour to town for this. I was the only customer during the entire time I was there.

Yes, I should have checked the card more carefully before I left home. I thought I was over the six months. The nurses with nothing to do were genuinely sorry, but they couldn’t deviate from the rules.

Although this is the first time I have come up against the rigid health services bureaucracy, reading I have done and discussions here indicate there is nothing unusual about my experience. The nurse agreed that they were having a difficult time getting people to vaccinate. They were even offering $20 vouchers to those who did! I was there and willing, but they couldn’t accommodate me. The nurses on site have no latitude whatsoever for making judgement calls or deviating from proscribed policy. She agreed it was ridiculous that she couldn’t vaccinate me and that one day difference was arbitrary and could have no effect at all. I know that discussions are even underway about bringing the second booster back to four months. But at six months minus 1, I couldn’t get it.

Not only do the nurses have no authority to make sensible decisions on their own, but there is no-one available who does. No doctor present or on call to rubber stamp a situation like this. The health authorities are concerned about declining vaccination rates and are trying to encourage people to come in. These kinds of stupid, pointless, inflexible barriers to those who do are not helping the situation. Common sense is severely lacking here.

It's the vaccination record system/IT infrastructure

Not them

It cannot under any circumstances be bypassed to enter a persons details to update unless the counter is up.

Big red square Access denied type box.

And if they did it and took your details to enter the following day would get hauled over coles.

Not to mention, if you had an adverse reaction for some reason, despite the fact that logically, a day wouldn't make a difference to that scenario.

Frustrating, I can totally understand.

I'm not complaining about the nurses on site. They were embarrassed by the stupidity of it all. It is the way it is set up and the complete lack of flexibility.

If I were going to have an adverse reaction, I would also have it a day later. It would have nothing to do with letting me in early. Frustrating indeed but my complaint is the system is stupid.
