Oblivian: Print yourself a QR (good for visitors too)

Job done.

I have done this. Mainly because we have builders around this week and next.

It only nags you when opening it. Only the people using it will see the nag about some empty days, 10% of people if that’s the amount using it.
I’d rather not have to make entry on days go no where, the alternative I guess is to ignore the nag.

RunningMan:

Similarly, I don't want my mobile data to be used to repeatedly download statistics about what everyone else is doing. Please just make the app as quick, simple and reliable as possible, not fill it full of gimmicks that detract from the core purpose of recording accurate and complete data to assist with rapid contact tracing.

I have mobile data turned off for most of the apps I use including COVID. If you're that fussed about your mobile data should be standard practice to comb your app permission for mobile data every now and then.

How much mobile data allowance you folks have on your plans that a bit here and there seems to impact so much?

Oblivian: Did everyone miss the part where no-one was using it and only 10% did over the holidays, or AFTER a confirmed case.

It's a lose lose. People don't use it, add something to encourage it and people don't like it.

@ RunningMan - some people prefer function over form, other prefer form over function. As Oblivian said, we need to get more people to use the app. These gimmicks / this gamification is on way to do it. Even I who wants it super fast & efficient can sometimes stop to smell the roses, enjoy the beauty built into the app & marvel at the stats.

the people that are still using it now are the people that will continue using it. its unlikely that you will be able to convince many more people to start using it and keep using it.

In the 40 days I have had my iPhone 12 since installing the covid tracer app it has used 5MB. It is literally almost at the bottom of my mobile data usage list and I have 15GB every month. The most data hungry things I do is Hotspot, YouTube and Chrome.

I'd understand if you have less than 250MB but I am sure there's other things that you'd be doing with that 250MB or not doing at all.

Cloud spending continues to surge globally, but most organisations haven’t made the changes necessary to maximise the value and cost-efficiency benefits of their cloud investments. Download the whitepaper From Overspend to Advantage now.

Morning commute observation.

Most wearing masks on the train, other than two not wearing at all and one with it below his nose (which now and forever will remind me of that cartoon about it being the same as not having pants on).

Very few appeared to scan the QR codes though.

I have noticed a few people doing that! And also a lot of people wear those disposable surgical masks inside out!

Surely that's just the same as their underwear - you get twice as many uses that way!

Underwear is four days (both ways, then inside-out both ways) ... then of course Friday commando.

RonW:<from other thread, beaten to punch during composing>

The idea is the important amount of data is the last 14 days if there is an outbreak and tracing is required. As decisions/lockdowns are based on the average incubation period. (hence the 2-3 day pause then 2 weeks if needed to let it burn out)

It's designed to encourage you to to keep it updated religiously within that period. And get you use to doing it without thinking. If you miss 1 day of a rolling fortnight. Say, don't go out each sunday and stay home and garden. You can just back date a quazi 'nada' or 'stayed home' to make the 14th.

There also can be mis-reads that says's it has. But don't log. Check the diary listing for 1 each date.

Cool update. Much needed QoL.

Still stuck on v4.1.0 and Apple App Store says it's the latest so I suppose they're still pushing/waiting for approval.
