Well, I finally got the dreaded VID.

I had a sore throat the day after attending the recent test match in Welly.  I thought that was just hoarseness from all the helpful refereeing tips I'd provided Wayne Barnes.  Did a RAT as I was due to fly home and there was a T line.

I have four risk factors for severe COVID and I expected it to go very badly for me.  A minor sore throat was as bad as it got and that was gone by Monday afternoon.   My partner hasn't contracted it nor any of the mates I spent most of the weekend with.

The worst part for me was that I ended up with a sore hip from sitting/lying around for a week inside a tiny apartment.   I was really lucky, compared to what some people go through.

I tested positive this morning too, along with two other people in my household. Astonishingly, one is still (somehow) negative.

Where can you pick up (free) RAT tests on the lower North Shore? I heard they were free but don't know where to get them from. I'm talking a box of 20-something.

Here's my account for what its worth.

My symptoms first appeared on the 18th, tested positive on the 19th. So I'm now day 12. Needless to say, COVID got me good. I was basically bed ridden for the first 4 days. Every ounce of energy was drained from my body and I had what I can only describe as the worst migraine headache I've ever had that lasted for 72hrs. I never got the sore throat or a bad cough, only a niggly cough that still persists today. I never had any difficulty breathing but my PulseOx did drop considerably and my resting heart rate was about 10-12bpm higher than it normally would be. My wife tested positive on my day 6 and has had similar symptoms minus the migraine headache. Today was her 1st day out of isolation but we only left the house to go for short walk to get some fresh air. She's not feeling up rejoining society just yet.

I would consider myself pretty healthy. 47yrs old, ~75kg and fairly active (run ~40km/week). COVID doesn't seem to give a sh!t about any of that. It still knocked me back pretty hard.

I've got a fairly persistent headache going on, aching muscles and joints, body can't decide if it wants to be hot or cold - head is boiling hot, feet are freezing.
Not too bad for the sore throat or coughing, and I appear to still be able to smell and taste everything; I know this was a common symptom of some of the very early cases.

Just very glad I'm double vaccinated + boosted.

Kiwikid: thanks for that, I couldn't find that info on the maze on their website.

Thanks.

I developed a sore throat overnight, so I guess the virus must be working its way through my body :/

Still quite lethargic, I don't really feel like doing much of anything, which is quite frustrating as I'm usually a fairly active person.

I have a possibly strange question. Once you've had coronavirus and then (eventually) when you test negative, is it possible to re-infect yourself with it?

After I finally test negative should I replace my toothbrush?
Sorry if this sounds like a dumb question, I know you don't need to with the flu, but I've never had this before.

i had to laugh at the bloke ahead of me at Countdown , no mask but he spent a couple of minutes sterilizing his hands before going in.

I managed to get some (free) RAT tests, thanks for the help in getting these :)
Re the other question though, once I'm negative should I replace the toothbrush of everyone that had coronavirus?

Boil (sterilise) your toothbrush?

Replacing your brushes would certainly come under the “It’s not going to hurt” list of precautions (imo).

Thanks, I think you're right, I'll probably just go with the replacement option. Having seen how nasty this can be I'd hate to have to suffer it again.
