The fact we had the envious worldwide status of having eliminated it from our community here, and enjoyed somewhat of a normal lifestyle socially and economically, would suggest we can do it again. Why should we be paying the price as hard working Kiwi's living here, of continued lockdown, solely as a result of borders remaining open.

The only chance the virus returning here is via the border, why put our hard work at risk?

I see your point regarding death of a family member, but what's the risk of thousands of lives being lost to a virus here if it returns and cant be controlled?

Because you can't deem someone stateless, you just can't.

You aren't tearing up their passport. Grounding airplanes or closing airspace doesn't revoke citizenship and a global pandemic should be viewed the same way.

"Two workplaces shut, workers showing covid symptoms"

The Auckland Regional Public Health Service, the Ministry of Health and the All-of-Government response is keeping mum about which businesses have been affected by this latest outbreak.

But an unnamed business with three sites across Auckland with links to the airport is now closed with one worker testing positive and several others falling ill.

One of the workplaces had been shut down ahead of yesterday's lockdown announcement.

This morning Health Minister Chris Hipkins confirmed work colleagues of one of the family members were also showing symptoms.

There are reports at least two colleagues are affected so far.

Shutdown the airport. We are closed for cleanup now.

This "links to the airport" despite"no link to overseas or managed isolation." says it all really.

Whats the value of citizenship if you can't enter your country of citizenship?

In all seriousness, denying New Zealanders entry (for an extended period) will cause substantial hardship to our own countrymen. Consider those who are overseas on temporary visa's that are approaching or have expired (perhaps as a result of an unexpected job loss).

Plus the border still can't be fully closed. Unless we don't want medicine, Oil/Petrol, export earnings etc, we will still need planes and ships to run, and they both need crew.

Consider those here facing job losses because overseas New Zealanders bought Covid19 back with them.

And if you were on the Gold Coast on a golf week with your mates, months ago, you would accept that you are still there today, and will be for months to come?

Businesses/locations where CT was detected should be named.

For example "If you've visited XYZ Freight Inc depots in Wiri, Manurewa or Mangere in the past week - please self-isolate for 14 days and get tested for C19"

We're making things harder for ourselves by being over-precious about privacy / not wanting to harm businesses. (there'll be a hell of a lot worse damage to all businesses if C-19 gets away on us - Melbourne style).

Frankly, a Job loss in NZ is not comparable to somebody being made effectively stateless.

Some locations have corporal punishment for overstaying.

In addition the decision would go against generally accepted Immigration Norm's. Pretty much the entire world will close their borders to New Zealanders (who don't hold residency status). Few countries will accept temporary entry of somebody who cannot return home. This will making jumping from country to keep valid visa's infeasible. Expect the diplomatic fallout from this to last for decades.

Finally it would be extremely hypocritical of New Zealand to be requiring people in our country on temporary visa's to leave on or prior to their expiry, while denying entry to our on countrymen in the same situation in another country.

he health minister Chris Hipkins is doing the media rounds this morning, following the return of Covid-19 to the community. It’s worth nothing that during the level four lockdown earlier in the year, Hipkins was not in the role of health minister. Appearing on the AM Show, Hipkins defended the level of preparedness at our border – but said everyone will now be checked for Covid-19.

“Everybody who has been working at the border [or in a managed isolation facility] will be tested,” he said. “We don’t know where this has come from”

On Newstalk ZB, Hipkins said that he found out about the new cases just before 3pm yesterday, after Ashley Bloomfield but before the prime minister. He told Mike Hosking that it was his “understanding” that the colleagues of one of the new cases are showing Covid-19 symptoms. However, he wouldn’t be drawn on how many people were symptomatic.

Defending the decision to lock down for just three days, Hipkins told RNZ: “it will depend on how quickly we can identify the source” and everyone who has been in contact with them. Pushed on whether it was reasonable to suggest we could come out of lockdown in time for the weekend, Hipkins said that will give the government time to decide “what is the most sensible course of action.”

Symptomatic people should call Healthline before getting a test, he said, as the the phone line would be able to direct people to the best place to get a test: “Don’t rush out to get tested,” Hipkins said.

hate to think how long the wait will be to talk to someone at Healthline

I contacted my GP via 'Manage My Health' and got a reply back in around 20 minutes. He has advised that although I am in Wellington I should regard it as being level 3 due to my suppressed immune. He has also arranged a courier to deliver a supply of masks for me and my wife.

Manage My Health is far easier to get info than Healthline.

Most people are sensible so its just back to daily briefings etc.

I do hope that authorities can learn from Australia, my impression reading the NSW reports over the last few weeks is that they identify business and locatiosn quickly.
We play stupid secrets , and then its up to press to out them.
In the meantime conspiracy theory channels get a boost as people are drawn to other news channels promising more info.

Its silly as letting people know locations early allows people with links to them to come forward.

Note more lunacy from Melbourne, maybe its the water  ?

Whats with that place vs NSW or anywhere else in Aussie ?

I wonder how many people didn't find out about the new lockdown until this morning because they didn't get the alert? I didn't get the alert txt till this morning. If I didn't check reddit before bed I never would have known. A bit stupid.

I was still asleep when this morning’s alert went off. I wasn’t asleep a second later and I am sure constipation won’t be an issue now.

No, but the problem arises when the permission to stay/work in another country expires and you get thrown out or into limbo in a transit airport somewhere...

Also, there is the quid pro quo of "If NZ wont accept its nationals back" then why should we accept ours, so should foreign nationals be able to stay NZ indefinitely... (or until the NZ border opens for inbound travel)
