Thank you all for providing the above information. I had not previously been aware of it and did not see anything on the web site. I have now registered and will see what happens.

Handsomedan:

I find it incredible that they haven't closed online ordering/delivery to anyone that isn't over 60 or with a history of underlying health concerns...

Now that is a smart idea!

I agree. But I also find it incredible that stores like Pacnsave aren't doing delivery. IMO it is better to deliver goods to people, rather than people visiting a store, eliminating people coming into a common space, where it is likely someone who has the illness (perhaps one of the upto 30% of cases that don't show symptoms) has also visited. But anyone over 60 IMO should have priority, as well as those with underlying health conditions, as they  have a higher risk of complications, that risk needing hospital care. It is largely about reducing that demand and saving lives

I've already sent strongly worded contacts to the two online stores saying they should be pulling online orders UNLESS they are over 60 for now.

Unable to get to stores is not only a 60+ issue. There are many under that age group that are unable to get stores to shop for essentials. Sole parents, disabled, those who cannot drive or don't own vehicles to mention a few.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

We have a young neighbour that is unable to get the stores and my wife has been shopping for her. We got her to give us her shopping list and we leave the goods on her deck. We will sort out payment at some time down the track when all this hassle has gone away.We are also sharing fruit and vege between neighbours observing Health safe guards.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

@Rikkitic, could you make a trip to a 4square or equivalent on the outskirts of your city? Or do you feel that is too much of a risk?

Nope. Not allowed at my age. If police stopped me on the way I would get a stern talking-to. Apart from that, after reading up on how this virus kills (old) people, I am terrified of getting it. No way am I going near any supermarket, however small.

Its not worth the risk to go but that is easy for me to say. My wife is younger than me and not in any at risk groups.

I think Countdown are in the process of doing almost exactly that.

To make sure our online delivery service is available to those who need it most, our delivery time slots will be reserved for our Priority Assistance customers first before they’re made available to other customers. We’re working hard to add more times and will open these up for all other customers as soon as we can. If you’re able to, please shop in our stores.

It has to be age OR underlying health conditions, not AND.

There are plenty of us comparative spring chickens who would be in dire straits if we got Covid for various reasons.

Geektastic: I looked at Countdown today and unless you’re on the special list it’s essentially no deliveries at all available.

How in the hell do I get on the 'special' list? I am over 70 and have COPD. Do I need to be dead first?

I don't think so. I think that is how you get let off paying taxes.

This is one of my worst fears, that people over 70 will believe it is not allowed, to go out. We will have people dying needlessly postponing essential and available medication, and simple nutrition issues.

Edit: Yes, it's a bad idea to go out. Yes, all other alternatives and support networks should be explored first. If people over 70 with no other source of information or contact are only getting a message to stay in and believe they are not allowed to go out - then this is a very bad thing and will result in deaths.

This isn't a small local store going to delivery for a couple of customers. To implement this at scale is a massive project, not something that gets spun up in a couple of weeks.
