I'm looking at getting a Sleep sensor to understand my sleeping patterns a bit more to see if there's a way I can improve them.

Is there anyone here who has had a bit of experience with any of the brands in the market? I'd prefer one I don't have to wear. But if an arm band is the wearable form, that could be okay.

I've seen a few reviews online, but would just like to know what peoples experience with accuracy and more importantly, any benefits they've achieved by using them?

If possible, iOS compatible would be great, but would also consider one that is only web based.

Recently a friend of mine undertook a clinical sleep study and was diagnosed with sleep apnea. She had to wear several pieces of sensing equipment, and was told by the medical professional that fitness trackers are a bit crap for sleep monitoring as most of them are just based on movement, but if you only want a rough guide then I think they're probably okay.

I have a Garmin Fenix which records movement and classifies sleep into awake/REM/light/deep. The sleep type is correlated to, but not the same as, the movement measurement so it must be factoring in heart rate and perhaps also oxygen saturation.

Is it accurate? Well, it tends to overstate my sleeping time as it often records me sleeping when I am actually awake in bed. Despite that I still find it somewhat useful for looking at trends and judging whether more scientific investigation is necessary.

I've got a Withings one. It's decent, but frustratingly it doesn't really let you edit the hours that you're actually sleeping versus just laying in/on bed watching TV or reading a book etc.

So probably not the best product for you if you're the type to get into bed for a while before you actually close your eyes to sleep.

I have the same device but I only use my bed for sleep so its completely accurate. I find the days that it shows a lack of deep sleep correlate with how I feel a lot more tired on those days. I love that fact that I don't have to do anything or wear anything to use it as its just a strap under my side of the mattress. It also doesn't seem to affected by my wife on the other side of the bed either.
