As of 28 Sep 2021 only 44% Kiwis are fully vaccinated in NZ.
Auckland is still at Level 3 lockdown.
What are you all so busy with, and cannot find 40 minutes of your precious time to get to one of the vaccination centers?
I was expecting huge queues at drive-through vaccination centre near Auckland Airport where you can get your shot without any appointment and even without getting out of the vehicle. What's more - you can take people from your "bubble" with you.
Instead - no queue at all. Took me 40 minutes round trip from Greenlane to 42, Verissimo Drive (Mangere) and back, including 15 minutes waiting time after vaccination (to check your reaction to vaccine).
P.S. Right shoulder is a bit sore, but now I can do Japanese to English conversions for you being fully vaccinated!

83% of those of eligible age in Auckland have had their first dose, and 47% second dose. I imagine the vast majority of the difference between those numbers are people waiting out the recommended 6 week dose spacing. Bookings for under 30's only opened on Aug 20, and it has only really been the three or so weeks with widespread availability of booking slots, so I don't think it is fair to point the finger at the 56% of non fully vaccinated kiwi's.

We are only about 1.5 weeks out from when the massive 90k doses days (about 55k of them first doses) come due for their second doses, so fully vaccinated numbers should shoot up shortly.

With regards to the remaining 17% of eligible Auckland, we are approaching saturation point. Everybody who is keen to be vaccinated, willing to make a trip for that purpose and with access to transport has already had a dose. Remaining 17% will have a combination of:

Disconnection from mainstream vaccine marketing.
Concerns about the vaccination.
Indifferent about the vaccination so not willing to go out of their way. "haven't got around to it yet" etc.
Issues with access to transport.
And perhaps a handful who have just been super slammed with work recently.

I imagine another few percentage points will show up for first doses if we keep having increasing case numbers this week. And anouther few percentage points if we announce some kind of a stick (i.e. no access to hospo stuff, or events without being vaccinated). But beyond that it is going to come down to hard work by our health providers. Medical centers calling every one of their vaccinated patients, and having an actual doctor discuss any concerns with them... Mobile vaccination teams turning up the doors of households which are not entroled at medical centers etc...

But great to know how quick the process is now. Took over 2 hours for me to get my second dose, not including travel time.

I drove EV to that Vaccination center and thought it was appropriate to share my experience In the NZ EV Owners Group on Facebook.
Knowing that for many, especially older people that group is the only social media they use. Post was immediately deleted by Admin. At the same time useless post about shortage of hazmobile drivers in UK and corresponding shortage of gasoline in UK is actively discussed there.... Pathetic.
Shared info in another Facebook group with immediate attack of anti-vaccine trolls.
So, I do not know about those % numbers you have, but my gut feeling that there will be long time before we reach Government goal of 90%.
I can only hope this summer won't be spent in lockdown ....

Appreciate the video... Tempted Alot more to have a late day coming to the office and getting it done.

Personally I'm supportive of vaccinations, however haven't actually had it done yet for two reaso s.
1. Covid lockdowns triggered a ton of work. I'm looking forward to it all settling down and taking a holiday.
2. I have a massive phobia. I need to schedule it around both work and having a support person...

When I checked the site over the weekend I couldn't find airport one so thought they had closed down....

I am also massively needlephobic and only had my first dose last week. I had to go to the doc and get some "calming pills" to get me out of the car at the pharmacy where I had mine done.

I deliberately booked for a time that was off-peak (mine was 8pm) and there was nobody else there, so I didn't see them getting jabbed or have to be embarrassed at my own reaction to the thought of being vaccinated.

In the end, the pills did their job, I was quite indifferent about the whole thing (after spending many, many sleepless nights thinking about it) and I am now working with my youngest son who is also very needlephobic.

Would recommend expediting getting your first dose. Takes about two weeks from your first dose to the first chunk of immunity, and the recommended 6 week dose spacing would put your second dose in mid November. There is the potential for case numbers (and individual risk exposure) to grow substantially towards the end of this year if we continue to drop alert levels.

I don't think out vaccination centers will have capacity issues, but if you prefer them super quiet, you have about 1.5 weeks untill large numbers of people are getting their second doses.

Can't really comment on the phobia, but obviously you have a system to manage this.

Update:
Asked two of my clients who are car dealers and obviously had all 5 weeks of Level 4 free time and access to cars - they have not done even 1-st one without any reason. Told them they won't see me at their yards for at least two weeks when my immunity takes effect after second doze.
Shared yesterday on "Russians in New Zealand" Facebook page who's Admn seems to be anti-vaccine and who was posting fake propaganda during last months. Today found myself blocked from that page already :(

The Auckland specific number were taken from yesterdays ministry of health press release.

Yesterday 3,884 first doses were given to Auckland resident's. Will take roughly 100,000 more fist doses to hit 90%, so roughly 26 days at current dose rate (which is dropping like a stone). Basically zero chance this will be reached by monday as per the goal. But this goal was allways super ambitious.

I suspect the EV Owners facebook page, either didn't consider it EV specific enough (not really anything noteworthy about such a trip from an EV perspective), or didn't want the post to become a platform for anti-vaxx tolling, which as you have noticed seems to be a major issue on facebook.

Your experience of being blocked @RUKI is pretty disheartening. I am sure we are headed for some very uncomfortable times when we start to differentiate the vaxed from the unvaxed where travel and mixing is concerned.

And, yes, I have had two!

@hio77 I hear you there! Did my first shot during L1 at the local doctors. My past experiences with injections and blood tests etc was well known and as a result was treated as such (in a good way). Our 2 year old was also there and kept me entertained.. was not my best but did not faint.

My 2nd dose was drive-thru. My wife (always my support person!) was getting hers too and drove us, anyway after I had the jab in my arm and moved forward to park in the waiting area I blacked out! Next thing I remember is a doctor and 3 nurses talking to me and shoving jellybeans down my throat!!

Staff were excellent and shortly after was on our way again.

The difference between the two? I would say the confines of being in the car. Not having the same distractions and not being able to move around when feeling faint.

Glad I got it done. But not sure I could do drive-thru again.

If you have a phobia anything like mine - get it done in the least fear inducing environment you can!

Re: needle phobia & overcoming fears True story (overseas). My mate got electrocuted during night shift at work. He was found crooked on the floor by security guard. Doctors prescribed some sort of muscle relaxant and vitamine injections to him to be administered daily into his butt.
Problem was - with muscle spasms he was unable to drive and had to arrange nurses coming to his home.
He asked if they could just give him a supply of medicine. So, he said, he was standing in front of the mirror, pants down, crooked in pain with siringe in his hand aiming at his butt for about 1/2 hour, reluctant and fearful to make that healing injection. Then he took a deep breath and he did the first one, something clicked inside his mind and all fears were gone. He did the rest of the course all by himself, so saved on payments to visiting nurse.
Sometimes nobody can help you with overcoming your fears but yourself.

Not being worried about needles I was interested in how prevalent needle phobia is. One NZ health site mentions 1:10 people and the immune.org.nz site mentions 1:13 health care workers in hospitals. The healthnavigator.org.nz page on the subject says "Remember it won't hurt that much
Remind yourself that the needle or injection will not be unbearably painful. It will only hurt a little. "

As far as the Covid vaccination goes I don't think it's helpful to even suggest pain. I know it is a personal thing but yesterday I was concentrating on the experience and with any distraction would have missed it.

Doesn't help when virtually every TV ad or experience of it has to have an example of an injection. Just why the hell do they have to do that? Thick as....

Quotes like that really annoy me.

For me (and for many others who suffer needle phobia) it's got nothing to do with pain, or stabbing or any of the other tired tropes.

It's irrational, a proper phobia and causes panic, anxiety and real fear.

For me, it's the insertion of a needle - I can't even watch a balloon being "stabbed" with a needle or sharp object on TV. It's the same thing.

I ride a mountain bike - I fall off, I hurt myself and I get stabbed by twigs and splinters and rocks etc as I do so. That's just not the same.

I do wish "trusted sources" would stop constantly referring to the lack of pain or the small needle etc...it's not even slightly helpful.
