Now that Australia is allowing a RAT within 24 hours of departure from NZ as an alternative to the PCR test are there any local places we can actually get a certified RAT?

At present it appears our only option is still an expensive PCR test

Short answer is you can’t. Any business with an NZBN can in theory purchase them for workers, however in practice they are simply unobtainable.

If you live in Auckland you can try Travel Clinic on the North Shore. They mention on their website that they offer them.

Rako Science offer testing around the country, 24 hour results or 6H at one of the Auckland clinics.

They have testing at AKl airport so can arrive, test, spend a night near the airport then fly the next day if you don't live in AKL.
