I recently acquired an elliptical bike for cheap - as the screen is not very visible. It is "inverted" and very hard to see. Machine works fine otherwise.

Can this be fixed via DIY methods, or should I look to get a new screen unit? If it can - please advise how? Thanks

Perhaps you could post the make and model.

The way those types of LCD are more visible is with Back lighting,

Now the screen might have had a back light and it has died.. or it was never illuminated in the first place,

If you feel game you could pull it apart and see if there is a failed light,

or If you can source a replacement panel it might look better, but it may have never been lit....

Your easiest option is probably to look at some form of exterior LED light lighting strips to just help with the over all contrast,

It's this model: Cross Trainer Sportop E850
I've been told $140 for a new screen.

Hence I'm keen to see if there is a way to fix the backlight. I'll see if I can open it up have a look inside.
Looked on YouTube, seems they should look like this:

So not inverted as I thought, but definitely should be more brighter/vibrant.

$140 is probably not a bad price if the rest of it is good.

I found some (out of stock) overseas that quoted more than twice that price.

Certainly looks like the backlighting part isnt working.

The trouble might be that its not the display, but the bit that powers the display (if you know what I mean).

Good luck!

If you get that sorted, I see there are some manuals available online (assuming you dont have one) and they mention what servicing you can do - cleaning/lubricating various components.
