I've had a couple of $50 Oral-B machines. Is there something better or is there not much difference between them all?

The chain stores have nearly all brands and models on special this week. It looks like a good time to update and upgrade.

- Oral-B
- Colgate
- Phillips
- Xiomi
- Smiletherapy

Have not tried any of the others but have a house full of the basic oral-b ones and they have been rock solid for years.

Used to have Oral-B's but found the gunk going to the bottom gross so I switched to philips sonicare toothbrushes, pretty solid.

Linux: Oral b but spend more than $50

The Pro 300 is $50 special at this time. Usually around $150 I think. Are the more expensive oral-b really any better?

I'm priming myself to spend a few hundred if it's really worth it.

The Pro 300 has a handle that is diabilocal to keep clean. The little "holes" trap toothpaste and you need a scubbing brush to clean them out.

or just use the old toothbrush head, just before you go to change it. Assuming you have more than one toothbrush in the house

PBTech has the Oral-B Series 9 io for $382. I'm leaning towards it:

https://www.pbtech.co.nz/product/HEAORB1019/Oral-B-iO-Series-9-Electric-Toothbrush-with-2-Brus

9 series adds ultrasonic action to the oral-b brush. It seems to be the only genuine upgrade from the usual brush type common across all oral-b models.

It's been a while since my last visit. They usually say pretty good when I ask them. Having said that, my previous Oral-B went into the bin just recently and I've been using a manual. Definitely my teeth don't feel as clean.

If it were me, i would see the dentist first, then see what they recommend. If they say you are doing a good job with the cheaper oral-b why spend 7x the amount on the other one.

The difference would pay for your toothbrush head refills for an awfully long time.

Going over some reviews I see the 6 series has all the same features as the 9 minus the 'smart AI' $264

I found these helpful. The 9 has a magnetic charging base vs the standard peg base on the lower models. The peg base does annoy me a little bit.

We've moved to the philips Sonicare brushes ~$100, on the recommendation of dentist. Previously used the $50 oral B. These have no mechanical moving heads so I find they last a lot longer before needing new heads. Down side is heads are harder to shop around for, we get them at farmers when on sale.

Performance wise, does appear to get in between your teeth better, I can feel the bristles get the gaps whereas the oral B could never. Hard to tell but the dentist appears happy with how gums/teeth look.

Overall I'd say it was a good change.

Definitely good advice. I only invested in an electric toothbrush after seeing my dentist some years ago following a few years of dental neglect 😑 Recommended I get one after a full exam and some work done just to reach the harder areas a normal brush may not get to, along with flossing. Haven't looked back since then and wouldn't use a manual unless I had no choice.

I have an Oral B Genius, they're discontinued I think (or on their way out) and it's paid itself in more ways than one - only visit the dentist every 6 months to get cleans now 😂
