Our Mazda Familia 2001 Sedan's power windows don't work. The driver's window with the "auto" button is the only window in the car that now works. The passenger side and back windows don't work at all. I can't hear any noise at all when the switches are pressed. Does anybody know what the problem is please?

I did splice into the left reversing lamp yesterday (coloured and black cables) to install power for a reversing camera. I'm wondering if that had anything to do with it?

One window is slightly down so will be a problem if it doesn't get fixed soon.

Usually a short from moisture, or a blown fuse somewhere.

were they working before you did the reverse lamp thing? if so its likely something you have done has effected it.

if not check the plug on the back of the drivers door switches

I didn't test out the windows afterwards because I didn't expect that the reversing lamp would affect it. The reversing lamp is still working though.

How would I find out which fuse it blew?

your manual will have a fuse diagram or your local Mazda dealer will be able to tell you.

Actually don't worry... Mum must've locked the windows with the window lock button... Very embarrassing...

The window lockout awitch was my first choice while reading your original post. Pleased it was a simple fix.

Yeah I completely forgot about the lock switch, and I thought the driver's switches overrided all the other switches so didn't cross my mind to think about that!

Since we are on the topic, I have a 2005 falcon, the driver's window winds down fine, but on the way up it "skips", so the window stops going up and it makes lots of clack sounds. I guess this is the regulator? Any idea of cost to get that fixed? Last time in a 94 prelude it was $80 for a second-hand regulator, and labour cost was quite low but I hear Ford's are always quite expensive to do stuff like this?

Sounds like worn regulator.

I wouldn't bother with a second hand one, unless it came off a significantly newer car, otherwise it's likely to be worn as well.

I picked up a new after market one for a Commodore from an auto wrecker for reasonable money. It was a while ago but I seem to recall it was about $130, though don't bank on my memory.

They're not too difficult to swap out though they can be a bit fiddly.There's plenty of YouTube How Tos

Usually the chanels get dry and dirty and just need some silicon spray to make them glide easier.

This suggests to me more than just some lubrication is needed. Lack of lubrication will increase wear and tear and it's a good idea to put silicone spray where the glass slides inside the guides on the door frame.

Graphite powder is much better in the felt window channels than silicon spray. The spray holds dust and dirt, silicon being a liquid.

While I have you all here, what is the difference between a key in the door and using the remote when it comes to central locking?

Using the key in the door == all locks will unlock as you'd expect.

Using the remote == Driver door usually unlocks, other doors try - as in I can hear something, the pins move but not enough to unlock. Sometimes some unlock, sometimes none.

If I lock and unlock in quick succession, it is almost guaranteed that none of the locks will unlock (but I can hear them try).

If that makes sense...
