Does anyone know how to update the firmware on a Vitara head unit? I've got one that has intermittent USB connectivity issues - sometimes it recognises the connected Android Auto or CarPlay device, most times it doesn't. iPhone refuses to connect over Bluetooth at all, only over USB (when and if it does).

I thought I'd try firmware upgrade, but Winger are absolutely useless when it comes to firmware or map updates. It's got an SD card slot so I guess that's a start.

Bosch do have a page with links to firmware downloads but no instructions or compatibility lists, so no idea which one I should use or what the step-by-step process is.

Hi.

We've got a 2015 Vitara & Suzuki Botany downs did a update for us during the last service. Admittedly, they also sent us to the Bosch website before.

I've also recently seen the issue crop up where CarPlay does not detect the phone. As things worked previously & Apple updates happen more frequently than Suzuki updates, I blame Apple for these issues. If you do find a solution, please PM me.

AFAIK the SD slot is for the maps. Our 2019 SD number ends in D4. Friends have a new rental that has a D7 version. Couldn't tell whether it knew about Transmission Gully etc because screen stuck in Canberra.

The firmware update if any uses the USB port.

2017 Vitara here.

Thats what I was told too, the SD is for the maps only, Ive never bothered as there is a charge for the updated (maps) and I prefer Google/Apple maps.

Ive had the unit firmware updated previously during a service but I havent noticed any changes recently nor been told there was an update (but I havent asked).

The only connection issue I ever have is when the cheap lightning cables from Kmart die every six months, but this happens in our other vehicles too.

My wife used to have issues with her iphone and it would generally require a restart of the phone to get it recognized again.

Well, that's a pain. Got service coming up in Feb, will ask Winger again. Who knows, maybe there's a solution.

I think this is worth reiterating. What sort of cables are you using? I've experienced the same behaviour in a current model Swift (which by the looks of things has a very similar head unit) that was resolved by replacing the cable.

I'm not in any way proclaiming gold plated unobtanium cables to be worth it, but do think it worth investing in a cable that meets the electrical specifications of the standards at play here.

Yep, the Carplay in my car can be intermittent, but I'm sure it's cable related. If I use an Apple cable, it works every time. I have a Belkin one in there at the moment, and it's fine about 95% of the time. The times it isn't I just unplug it and reconnect it.

100%

With iPhone I find cheap cables fail after a few months. With Android Auto head units can be fussy about what cables work and what doesnt.

When I was looking into updating my wife's Baleno, the software provided by Bosch on its website was/is not the finished compiled update, and the compiled version is what we need to have.

There is some good info on this thread for the Suzuki SLDA head units (maps included).
