Hi,

Kicking off a new thread for Outlander specific stereo conversions, after the success of the Mazda MPV thread a while back.

Anyone had any experience replacing the Outlander stereo, ideally on a PHEV version if that's any different?

They appear to have two flavours, a standard and a Rockford Fosgate version which looks to use Canbus more, so is a bit different.

Inbuilt reversing camera, I've read this is also 6V (like the Mazda MPV cameras).  Anyone had any issues getting this to work?

Thanks!

What year Outlander are you planning on doing this on? Watching this thread with interest

Sorry I should have included that.

Personally I'm interested in a 2014 PHEV

However I think that particular model was the same from 2013 - 2018 or so, with the two variances being the standard stereo vs the fancier Rockford Fosgate option with more Canbus involvement (I think) and a power amplifier/sub woofer built in etc.

Just looping back on this.

Purchased a whole Android unit out of China after comparing what was avaialble locally via typical name brands.

Was able to source a 9" screen in a custom replacement dash panel running Android 13.  Has wireless apple car play and full chrome store support, so is now running spotify that I can download.  Supports existing rear view camera (with no need for a transformer like the Mazda MPV did for its side mirror camera) and the factory steering wheel controls.

Only thing I encountered was an initial issue with the Illumination wire signal which didn't appear to be standard on / off.
Wasn't a biggy, just meant a bright screen at night without auto dimming signal.

Solved this though by double checking the settings and found it was working but I needed to set the screen brightness at night time to just 5%.
Anything larger (defaulted to 50% or so I think) was just too bring to notice a difference.

Once set right down low it all behaved as expected.

Also installed a dash cam at the same time and removed all of the existing Japanese electronic toll collector system and windscreen aerials for this at the same time.

Also have a tyre pressure monitoring system to give a go, given the headunit has 2 usb ports.

Forgot to add this was not the Rockford Fosgate initial stereo model, so no CANbus requirements or factory amp/sub to interface with.  ie nice and easy.

Have now setup the Tyre Pressure Monitor System mentioned above.

Slap a sensor on each tyre and it displays inside on the android app

Need to check for leaks after installing and there are internal ones that would be cooler., but so far is working well.

Nice one - how long would you say boot time is at a guess?

First time up / full boot up is a full Android device startup process.  Much like a tablet or Sony android TV restart.

Each time you use the car though it's a resume/wake from sleep type action, and the radio starts playing/is ready to receive an input like a mute button press etc in 4 seconds.

In our case when starting the Outlander PHEV, that means it's on and ready to switch to the rear view camera view by the time the car itself is on and the dash is ready to be moved into reverse.
