Linuxluver: Many of the over 250K Cybertrk pre-orders are coming from places with low EV penetration. Looks like it's opening up new markets.

$100.

Refundable.

(A marketing stunt, not an expression of genuine intent to purchase).

When a new EV can 500km for less than $40K then I'll get one for work. I get reimbursed by the kilometre!!

If the "pre-order" required some firm financial commitment, then yeah, but it doesn't - so nah.

If you held some Tesla stock and didn't preorder one or more, you'd really be shooting yourself in the foot.

The map is also quite deceptive

- South Dakota has a 67% increase in interest, with 400 pre-orders

- California has a a 49% decrease in interest, which is 32,300 pre-orders.

'Meanwhile, interest in Arkansas, the Dakotas, Maine, Mississippi, Nebraska, New Mexico, West Virginia, Wyoming and Idaho are all way up.  That said, their pre-order totals are still dwarfed by California, with 7.7k cars reserved among all those states combined'

Stats are a politicians friend:-) This still shows the majority of interest is in EV friendly locations.

If you/your work is following the IRD rules for mileage, and you do more than 14000 km for work purposes, you'll only get 9c per km with an EV.

I'm not sure what the IRD rules are. I get 38c per KM. Do about 30-40,000kms. I'll have a look and see what the IRD says about EVs.

Probably not in the market for the big truck though!

A lot of redneck Trump states there. Maybe they're all plumping for bulletproof transport since many are talking up a future civil war.

Bulletproof - really?! It's shows you just how nuts Elon is becoming (IMHO).

Probably was thinking of the South African market when designing it.

It's clearly a gimmick. Stopping a 9mm round, and not being fitted with armored glass is going to be insufficient to compete against armored cars.

Tesla just had to come out swinging that their truck is tougher than other trucks, otherwise, they would be slammed for producing a soft flimsily unibody, independent suspension pick up, fit only to compete with the Honda ridge line, and not real pick up trucks... Clearly it has worked, no body is calling the cybertrick out for being soft (despite having features associated with being soft)

The real bulletproof thing is Musk himself.

Good to see people around the Cybertruck to get a feel for how big that thing really is, and interesting to see peoples reactions.

Tesla Truck - why we're all wrong about the Cybertruck design

Undecided with Matt Ferrell

After the reaction to the Tesla Truck, a growing trend is showing that we're wrong about the Cybertruck design. Going in we knew that Tesla’s pickup truck design would be unique and stand out. Elon had been warning us that it looked like something from Bladerunner after all, but that didn’t stop the collective freak-out we saw in the media and online. That is ... until about 48 hours later when a common refrain started showing up: “It’s kind of growing on me.” Why?

A bit like watching your uncle's slide show of his vacation, but first half is OK.

Why This Toyota Truck Loyalist Is Buying a Tesla Cybertruck

Design Prototype Test

Despite the radical aesthetics, the Tesla Cybertruck is a shining example of function-over-form, and it is perfectly designed. I explain what I mean, and tell you why it will be the first non-Toyota truck I will have ever bought, and the first new vehicle I will have ever owned.
