Journeyman:

I'd report that to the police tbh. Might sound like an overreaction, but that sort of dumb crap can cause a nasty smash on the motorway.

Funnily enough as we rounded the bend about 5 seconds later there was a bike cop stopped giving a ticket to someone on the central divider. Would have been some delicious irony if he had witnessed this incident and busted him red handed.

The cycleway design on Riddiford Street in Wellington is unbelievable. Like the Tauranga photo above, it has the cycleway going between the bus stop and the footpath, hence people disembarking from the bus are thrown straight out onto the cycleway! They have added silly little pedestrian crossing markings as if they seriously believe that cyclists are going to give way to bus passengers.

It's lucky it's right outside the hospital.

I encountered this for the first time when I caught a bus from Karori to the hospital for an appointment last week. I'm all for the "mode shift" approach to get more people walking, cycling and using public transport, but honestly that's just providing convenience for one group at the expense of another.

The same design is used on the Island Bay cycleway. I can't think of an easy way round it, can you?

One option is to direct the cyclists round the right hand side of the bus, then the cyclists are at risk of being clipped by a car or a bus that's pulling in or out (although that's what I did the last time I used such a cycleway when a bus arrived ahead of me).

Another option with the current design is that cyclists stop and/or 'share the space' so there's no collisions.

There's precedent for such behaviour - ever driven in another country where trams stop in the middle of the road ? Traffic simply has to stop on the pedestrian side (RH) of the tram so passengers can reach the footpath.

When I cycle I'm all for avoiding collisions. I am guessing most others feel the same.

No I don't have an answer, but I do think the hospital is a special case. There are way more likely to be people with some infirmity alighting there - I mean I was there for a scan - and the last thing you want to encounter when you are getting out of a bus in that situation is a cyclist.

Yes I think some of the tram stops in Melbourne are as you describe. Stop in middle of road and cyclists/vehicles need to stop (on left in their case) until tram has moved on. From what I recall, the difference there is that there is a concrete barrier and railing to prevent tram passengers from alighting directly into the path of oncoming vehicles.

Where this guy put his phone.

Believe it or not - I have seen worse.

Driving on the Northern Motorway in AKL one day and there was a chap in a hybrid Camry, who had not one, but THREE mobile phones directly in his eyeline. I'd assume he was doing three jobs: Uber, Ola and something else.

How he could see is beyond me!

There's muppets then there's this. The guy should be up on a charge of attempted murder, at the very least assault with a weapon.

Fat lot of good that will do.The authorities will still be able to trace the owner.

Also I'd say it's good bet someone will be able to figure out who it was or was able to find out through the old plate details before that "clown" {actually that's being grossly insulting to clowns}, that murderous idiot changed the plates. He deserves all the backlash he gets.

There is only one legitimate reason I can think of to change the plates and that is to protect the owner if the vehicle was not being driven by the owner. However I suspect that scenario is unlikely.

If the need to get past was that urgent use of the horn, hazard warnings, and flashing the headlights would have been the right way to go about it.

Wow that would have been very scary to deal with and hope the police get the person. Makes my complaints look very tame.

Tonight on a short trip I encountered one person driving 30km/h in 50km/h zone, after pulling out in front of me, for over 1.5ks until I could safely pass them. Could not see any reason for them to drive at that speed. One person texting while driving about 85km/h on 100km/h motorway, at least the phone and hands were up on steering wheel and he was in slow lane. Gave him a toot  but should have got plate number. One driver doing 80km/h on 100km/h motorway just after the texting guy that as I passed him on the inside off ramp lane he started indicating then pulled in behind me and flashed his lights at me as he held up the next lot of traffic, I did a standard 3 + seconds indication before moving lanes and then passed with plenty of opportunity to see me. One person indicating left going into roundabout but went straight through in front of me as I was about to pull out.

Fun night out there.

He should be charged with the attempted murder of every person in the vehicle he was ramming and also banned from driving for life.

I give you muppets in Central Wellington (Lambton Quay), blocking the WRONG SIDE OF THE ROAD, after a Falum Dafa March along Lambton Quay slowed traffic last Wednesday 27 July.

Photos taken from the upper deck of a Double decker bus.

And the Side street the Muppets are turning into.

Had a shit race up behind me on the Northwestern this morning, coming into the city just under spaghetti junction. When I didn't respond to his intimidation and move out the way, he threw a half cup of mcdonalds coke over my windscreen when he was next able to overtake. Rego: GTD584

From my experience on the northwestern, and going by his appearance, he was either a tradie late for work, or glass BBQ enthusiast needing his next fix.

saw a similar thing on the motorway the other week.

abusive person on the attack trying to bulldoze his way through the traffic, throwing stuff at cars.

What is it with people in new cars? Why do they drive around town at 40 ?

Needs context. Are they driving too fast in Central Wellington where there's a 30 limit or going slow in Hicksville so everyone can see they've got a new car?

We've all been stuck behind those people with a recent number plate on the car, max speed 40 on an suburban main road - but still they slow down for the corners.

I don't care if you've got a new car - keep it moving sunshine.
