gzt: This type of misunderstanding is common. I have wondered why yellow lines are not added to the nearby kerb in addition to the hydrant.
Bung: Because it is OK to park there so long as somebody licensed and capable of moving the vehicle remains with it.
/sarcasm on ...and it is a "Reserved Parking Space for the Entitled!" /sarcasm off
Where not to park
.......
on, or closer than 500mm to, a fire hydrant, unless somebody who can move the vehicle stays with it
on a yellow circle on the road containing a rectangle or between the circle and the footpath, unless somebody who can move the vehicle stays with it.
People often mistake me for an adult because of my age.
Keep calm, and carry on posting.

That wouldn't work in Wellington. People here just ignore no parking lines and park wherever they like.
Remember these Muppets are on the road too!
Need I say more about Ute drivers!

Need I say more about Ute drivers!
Utes have been some of the most popular new vehicles sold in recent years so there's more of them around, and given the bulk of currently available utes are the higher riding types (unlike the older car based varieties) they are more noticable than a car on the road if the driver does do something wrong.
Headlines like that Stuff article just reinforce negative stereotypes in order to sell stories. Even the person quoted in the article as seeing the vehicles didn't refer to them as utes, and there's a whole bunch of non utes in the photos. It seems the behaviour of the drivers referrred to in that article is thoughtless and/or irresponsible, but that doesn't mean that everyone who drives a ute is like that.
You'd be hard pushed to find anybody that hasn't done something wrong or stupid while driving, regardless of what they drive. A bit of courtesy goes a long way though, and so does reacting calmly if (when?) someone does something dumb next to you. No point in making a bad situation worse.

This says less about "Ute drivers" and more about reckless disregard of protected areas for the sake of drinking alcohol in large quantities.
rego: DLA32 - silver 1997 Toyota Ipsum tried to ram me off the road on the North western approaching the city this morning. I hadn't got out of my lane (inside lane, doing 80) after he came racing up behind me, so he overtook then suddenly veered in towards me as he passed. If my daughter wasn't in the car with me, I expect I would have at least given him the finger.
No use of indicators etc. as he then stormed off cutting across other lanes.
There appear to be a breed of these people (i suspect meth users) who fly down the motorway from West Auckland and then try and intimidate people out of their way.

Yesterday my partner was rear ended in stop/start traffic by this maniac ... she stopped , he reversed, swerved around her and tried to flee with his arm out the window giving the fingers. . . being bumper to bumper traffic, he couldn't flee... she gestured for him to pull over and he was clearly getting angry. He pulled over, rushed at my partner, doing the tiktok fighting stance walk, calling her the C word and B words among other things.
She was terrified, and he jumped back in his car and left ... naturally he didn't leave his details but she took a photo of his car and we filed an online complaint with the police .
I feel this is all part of a growing wave of lawlessness in this country. Lucky she wasn't injured by the accident or by him.
Edit:checked his car details online, no warrant or rego.
