I think it matters diddly squat what designers and professional YouTubers proclaim, at the end of the day they don't represent the typical US truck owner who will eventually determine the fate of the Cybertruck. Looks aside, it simply be a dollars for features comparison that sinks or saves it.

I can't wait for it to launch to see how it plays out. For me, I'm putting my money on the overwhelming reaction on launch day: "if it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck and is yellow, it's a duck."

In Doug's video, he's made some good point.

I think the EPA's fuel figures are off, to the slight benefit to petrol.

But if I had the room to have a full size truck, and lived in a place with wide roads, I'd buy one.

If I was rich enough to own two vehicles, one would be the Tesla.

Though I'm a geek, I think the truck is cool. Really how many people buy a vehicle based solely on logic?

I was talking to my brother who lives in California. He says he wouldn't buy a Tesla anything because they are so common they may as well be Honda's that cost half as much!

That'll be the USD22,000 or so Californians get in Federal and State grants to buy electric cars.

My brother is a geologist and drives a Toyota Tacoma (a bigger Hilux). He said the Cybertruk just wouldn't fit in with his work needs until they can offer charging in 5 minutes more or less anywhere.

He also thought it looked awful. I showed it to our builder today, who took delivery of a new Hilux about a month ago.

FUG prevents me from repeating what he said....!

Then there's Tesla's share price which has yet to recover its drop following the Cybertruck announcment. The cynic in me wonders how many of the Silicon Valley commentators desperately talking up the Cybertruck are actually talking up their portfolio value.

After the initial excitement and some more objective reflection: -

I wonder what the head room in the back is like?

Also wonder what those tyres are worth each?

Head room in the back is great from the people riding in there on the reveal night, 6ft people with plenty of room, production car might be a little shorter tho?

Tyres will be $400usd each or so - doubt any different to any other chunky off-road suv/truck tyre.  Will be a surprise if you are used to shopping trolley 185/45/18s etc

If it makes it to market, there will be the expected initial flurry of sales to silicon valley tech heads, youtubers of note, and Tesla fanboys & girls.

After which the real test will come ... will the trucking community pick it up? I say not a chance ... but may be wrong, time will tell.

Same was said over the model S and mode 3. I think the market is bigger than tesla could easily supply for quite some time.

The rolling coal guys wont buy it but they are not the majority of truck buyers

Thanks I haven't watched the video, vehicle is obviously larger than I thought.

$800NZD here due to currency and a less competitive market?

Usually costs me about <$1k to reshod my Pajero with highway tyres.

Why make the Cybertruck bulletproof. Presumably this adds significant weight, which EV builders generally try and avoid.  When it comes to towing, a heavier truck reduces how much can be towed on a Class 1 licence.

For Americans paranoid about handbag handguns - it's only bulletproof in terms of resisting a 9mm pistol bullet.  This might have something to do with the "WAF" of the truck - although if I brought one home, I expect I'd be got in some other serious way.

If you're attacked by someone with a BFG, you're doomed.

'bulletproof' is only a byproduct of the design and materials

Bulletproof may be the key selling point given Trump's base are increasingly touting an upcoming civil war ...

I find reveal videos tedious.
