Yes you will need the blue adapter for a 16a caravan socket, the mobile charger comes with indoor 10 and 15amp plug ends.

No need for cables at DC chargers

Public tethered type 2 nothing is needed (except the right account/fob etc to activate if required) - this also covers tesla destination chargers

The type2/type2 cable really depends. They are $300 but handy to have esp if you camp a lot or have a lot of public AC charging.

I have only used my T2/T2 cable once so far. It was at The Warehouse in Cambridge. They have AC charging there but the way the parking is set up it is virtually impossible to reverse into so I was glad I had ordered a 7m cable. It was able to reach the length of the car quite comfortably after nosing into the park. So I would suggest when purchasing a cable “go long”.

The other wonder was there weren’t a couple of diesel utes parked in the charging spots. Something that, according to Plugshare, is a regular occurrence (parks aren’t marked “EV Only”) at that particular location.

Good advice re length - a cable's no use if it can't reach! Whereabouts did you buy your cable from?

I get the point earlier about not leaving the car for long with a low charge, but I'm somewhat confused by Tesla's advice re recommended upper charging restrictions (for RWD models):

What determines what the image of the battery displays, as per the messaging above? (eg, in what situations would it display 'trip' or 'daily' to mean charging it to under 90%?)/

The battery chemistry, its not a thing hat will change according to conditions

The LR/Perf or older SR+ have NCA cells.

The current RWD cars (and most of our SR+) have LFP cells, which dont mind sitting at 100% charge and actually do better when fully charged.

NCA packs are fine to charge to 100% if you are going to use them but dont leave them sat on it for days.

Another thing if you are planning to fast charge its much better to do it at the end of a trip (esp if you can precondition the pack) rather than after an overnight soak in our winter cold.

Man, news of the price increases to the EV6 makes me even more thankful (and amazed) at having been able to order an MY that's eligible for the rebate. Following this Kia increase and a similar one to the longer-range Polestar there are now very few (if any?) other eligible EVs that even get close to competing with either the MY or M3 in terms of performance and features.

I had a feeling that was the case, but it's a piss-poor way of wording it!

So, just to make sure I've understood this correctly: in other words, these older SR+ cars have a battery display that says "Daily" and "Trip", and they've noted this as a way to ensure users/owners treat these batteries more carefully. But for those with a car with the newer battery chemistry - which will be demonstrated by 50%/100% on the battery display - can regularly charge to 100%.

The same page from Tesla's website encourages owners to charge daily - does that include the battery being ok with a daily charge for only 60-90 minutes? We have that free hour of power, and much of the time I could get away with that length of charging (and certainly enough to keep it topped up to a decent level).

Yes, SR+ had NCA packs up until the start of 2020 - basically if the app/screen suggests daily/trip then you have NCA and wan to mostly charge to 90%

Tesla have always said you are best plugging in whenever you can and setting an appropriate charge limit, personally I dont bother

The 4680s are Still nickel based, higher energy density, I dont think you would fit the Austin NCA/4680 kwh in with lfp cells

LFP doesnt have many disadvantages - poorer low temperature charging etc, but isnt anywhere near as energy dense , you get ~55kwh in space that NCA gets 82kwh and thats without packing in 4680s and whatever advantage they have

Re Wall chargers - Evenex do an all inclusive package with their charger for $2295 incl GST.

The Tesla Gen3 wall charger seems to be competitively priced. Has anyone has a recent install done. What was the install cost?

I bought the Tesla WC gen 3 in October '21 when it was $835. It's $870 now. The install was under $100 as I had the sparky do a couple of jobs for me that day. Mine is installed on the wall outside right next to my grid power board ....next to my driveway. So very easy to do.

I had a Gen 3 installed for $286 inc 3 x 20A MCB's since I have 3 phase power. Already had the cable in the wall since it was a recent build so that wasnt included, but was about $10/m for 6mm 5 core cable from ECS Express.

Is it true that NZ Model Y will not come with a mobile charger? Will have to spend $1000 for one, and then another $785+ install for the home charger? A bit ridiculous imo if true

I thought it was just the US that wasn't going to get the mobile charger because their weak 110v power supply can - even at 12amp - still only add about 1.2kWh per hour. That's about 8km / hour. I did that at my brother's place in Canada with a Chevy Bolt. In a 12 hour charge it didn't even add 25% to the 64kWh battery pack. Tesla said people don't use it. I can't blame them.

Our 240v power is much more useful.
